We are thrilled to announce that Professor Jyotirmaya Sharma, Department of Political Science, School of Social Science at University of Hyderabad, has been elected Fellow of the ROYAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY (RHS), a prestigious recognition for his contributions to intellectual history. As a Fellow, Professor Sharma joins a community of esteemed historians and scholars who are shaping the field of history globally. The RHS is a leading UK-based organization dedicated to promoting historical research, education, and public engagement. As a result of conferment of the Fellowship, Professor Sharma will have access to a range of benefits, including research funding opportunities, events, and networking possibilities. Professor Sharma has been the recipient of many awards, academic distinctions and fellowships. In 2019–2021 and 2012-2013, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg, The Göttingen Institute of Advanced Study, Germany. From 2015–2021, he was appointed, Member, Scientific Advisory Board, Lichtenberg-Kolleg, Georg-August-Universität, Göttingen, Germany. Between September 2015 to June 2016, he was Visiting Fellow, Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (Institute for Human Sciences), Vienna, Austria. The Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, invited him as Visiting Professor between 18-22 March 2014. In January 2012–June 2012, he was Fellow at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Uppsala, Sweden. The International House, Japan and Japan Foundation awarded him the Asia Leadership Fellow Programme (ALFP) fellowship in 2008. His recent publications include, Elusive Non-Violence: The Making and Unmaking of Gandhi’s Religion of Ahimsa. Context, Chennai, 2021 (Reprinted in paperback in 2023), The Ocean of Mirth: Reading Hāsyārṇava-Prahasanaṁ of Jagadēśvara Bhaṭṭāchārya, A Political Satire for All Times, Routledge: London and New Delhi, 2019 (South Asian Paperback in 2020), and ‘Violence Affirmed: V.D.
