Driving in Phoenix/northern Arizona solidifies my opinions on Texas roads and drivers. TX is like Mad Max on steroids. Phoenix freeways are much cleaner and well maintained and the drivers don’t drive like they’re on a 3 day coke bender

The amount of oil is not the problem. It's the TYPE of oil. The last time a new refinery was built in the US was in 1977. Our refineries are built to process heavy sour crude. Today, most of the oil produced in the Permian is light grade sweet crude. The products made from these two types of oil are not the same. We have to export our oil & import heavy crude from other countries because we literally cannot rely on our own production & refinery network to produce the goods that the US needs independently.

Explain to me like I was 5 why we ever need the Middle East or any other country for oil
