Chicago housing provider dealing with its politics, resisting victim culture, no apologies. Spelling/typos don't matter on social media (opinions r my own)🇬🇷

Spain froze rents and capped increases at 2%, but rent control is already cutting supply by up to 50% and not improving conditions for renters. Spain should follow Argentina, which ended rent control in 2023 and has seen housing supply rise 180%, reports Cato’s @hiperfalcon. ow.ly/k7Mx50YztmZ

NEW: More details are emerging on Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s surprise firing of Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Garien Gatewood. Sources close to Johnson’s office claim Gatewood filed a complaint late last year with the inspector general’s office, alleging unethical practices and a hostile work environment. I’m also told Gatewood was fired while attempting to put Senior Policy Advisor Alyx Goodwin on a performance improvement plan. Goodwin previously worked as an activist supporting police and prison abolition alongside Kennedy Bartley, who is now Johnson’s head of intergovernmental affairs and one of his closest aides.

yah this should be illegal

i just heard about this last night from a friend who is also apartment hunting. he found an apartment he loved but the owner is having an open house to invite people to bid so he just didn’t apply. this is ridiculous. it’s hard enough to find housing. greed is so gross.

Why is this not banned in Chicago?

what’s it like applying for apartments in Logan Square? well, the place we just applied to had a field for bidding on the rent price

@edwest After a decade in the public sector I still find this one of the most replicable observations ever made.

Another teen takeover in the Chicago, it must be getting warm again.

Landlords and private equity firms mysteriously decide to be less greedy in the cities where developers can build more homes easily

The lot is still vacant, rents are going up, Chicago is not building because aldermen get in the way

Excellent job by the investigators. My heart goes out to the heartbroken family of Sheridan Gorman. This sweet young Loyola freshman had a whole life ahead of her. Sheridan deserves justice. Let it begin this morning in the courtroom. Hold him. Prosecute him. Deport him to prison in El Salvador.
