Leah, I agree with your general point about building a broad popular front against authoritarianism. The issue here is that when it actually came time to build the broad front against fascism to prevent it (aka the 2024 election) the online left faction (led by Hasan Piker) were absent to cheering it on.
You are just pretending like it's merely about differing ideology, which is just not true. I get along fine with plenty of people to my left IRL. The difference is, all of them didn't even have to think twice about supporting Kamala because they realized that a whole lot of vulnerable people would suffer if Trump was elected. This was very, very much not the case with these people.
So forgive me if I'm not going to cry crocodile tears when a guy who helped make this happen merely gets a supboena (assuming it actually happens).

The entire point of No Kings is building a broad popular front of defiance against authoritarianism. If you don't get the connection between that and defending people against authoritarian persecution regardless of whether you share their politics I have no idea what to tell you

@no_earthquake It’s not about being a cop. It is your moral duty as a teacher to do everything you can to keep honest students from being cheated. It’s part of the contract we have with students and other constituencies.
Maybe we can’t catch it all, but we are obligated to try

This is what university and college professors in the United States have to deal with now. I'm so thankful I was able to come here but my G-D do I understand why recent PhDs are leaving academia in droves.

People who excel and are real experts in a field are rarely teaching professors those profs usually get research gigs now calm down and go grade some papers bc you literally work for students who pay your bills and the schools bills and maybe you should recognize that 😂😂😂😂

@ajlamesa there is actual economic research on this, and yes, even just asking imposes a noticeable cost...on some level we know this since if it didn't there would be no reason to make laws banning panhandling and yet we see them all the time

Forcing customers to hit no tip after buying a $2 donut or $3 drip coffee introduces socio-emotional labor to the transaction. Multiply that across multiple purchases during the day and a lot of people feel annoyed in a way they wouldn’t if buying stuff in, say, Sweden or Japan.

(Jewish) family friend here in PA, who's been a Dem for 50 years (and a frequent Dem donor) just posted that he is leaving the party and becoming an Independent. Sad to see but honestly I don't know if I can blame him at this point.
