Hospitals are places of care, not confrontation. In line with concerns raised by @aproko_doctor, we reiterate that health facilities must remain safe spaces for care delivery at all times. Disruptions in hospitals endanger patients, health workers, and trust in the system. #Healthworkers are #NotATarget CC: @_PastorUmoEno | @Fmohnigeria | @officialEFCC | @nationalnma | @muhammadpate | @WHONigeria
Dr. Chinonso Egemba@aproko_doctor

What happened at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital yesterday is a national disgrace and must not be treated lightly! Calling on @officialEFCC to promote lawful conduct; to publicly call the officers involved in the act to order, @Fmohnigeria @nighealthwatch to protect our healthcare system, and the presidency @NGRPresident and @NGRSenate to look into this, so this doesn’t happen to any healthcare worker again. @UN @WHO @WHONigeria @UNICEF_Nigeria Justice must prevail. Say NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS. Enough is Enough.

The Nigeria Health Watch team, led by our Managing Director, @VIhekweazu, had the pleasure of meeting @UNFPA Representative @muriel_mafico, and the team at their Abuja office. It was a great opportunity to reintroduce Nigeria Health Watch’s advocacy and communications work and discuss our role as an implementing partner to @UNFPANigeria. Our conversation focused on how we can continue to work together to advance UNFPA’s priorities in sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, maternal health, adolescent health, and the demographic dividend. We also shared Nigeria Health Watch’s strengths in strategic advocacy, policy engagement, multi-platform communications, and subnational engagement, and how these capabilities can help amplify the impact of UNFPA’s programmes.

A few minutes of boiling can prevent days of sickness. Safe drinking water is essential for healthy families and communities, yet harmful germs in untreated water are often invisible to the eye. Boiling water is a simple and effective way to make it safer for drinking and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. #HealthForAllNG

The Nigerian @NGRSenate's passage of the BHCPF Amendment Bill to increase the Basic Health Care Provision Fund from 1% to 2% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund could mark a major shift in primary healthcare financing in Nigeria. The proposed increase is widely seen as critical to strengthening implementation of the NHIA Act, improving primary healthcare services, expanding insurance coverage for vulnerable populations, and reducing the burden of out-of-pocket healthcare spending on Nigerians. @Fmohnigeria

Why some counties are signing up for SHA faster than others... Registration isn’t moving at the same pace across the country. In some places, uptake is high. In others, it’s slow. The gap comes down to awareness, access and how people experience the system on the ground. Same programme. Different realities. Explore our data centre: willowhealthmedia.org/why-some-count…

Harmful drinks are getting cheaper and not healthier. Data from the WHO Global report on the use of sugar-sweetened beverage taxes, 2026, shows sugary drinks & alcoholic products are now more affordable in most countries, including for young people. This is a global warning sign. A well-designed national policy on sugary drinks and other harmful products can protect public health. Support excise reforms. #HealthTaxesNG

Responding to questions on how the withdrawal of the US from WHO has affected coordination, particularly the role traditionally played by agencies such as the @CDCGlobal in public communication and outbreak response, te Executive Director, Health Emergencies Programme, @WHO, @Chikwe_I, noted that collaboration with the US CDC continues as part of a broader international response involving multiple countries and partners. He explained that while technical engagement remains active, operational responsibilities for public communication, including press briefings and health alerts, rest with national authorities such as the US CDC.
