Curious on everyone’s opinion on this.
My take: The problem with soccer from an American perspective is not that people don’t understand it. It’s that it is just notoriously slow. And by slow I mean the only sport slower is golf.

Early days but so far this is the worst World Cup of my lifetime:
- half empty stadiums
- bang average atmosphere
- rubbish kick off times
- VAR appalling
- poor quality teams due to expanded tournament

On the timings issue, it’s not just the *actual* times, but the gaps. Why couldn’t it be Qatar v Switzerland 8pm, as is, Brazil v Morocco 10pm, hour earlier than it is, and Scotland v Haiti at midnight, 2 hours earlier than it is? It’s not just the specific times but the gaps.

@RedDogNF @richard1999jon1 11 games kicked off after midnight UK in 94 btw. Couple the "emphasis" on player safety, a 48 team tournament, and an actual desire to make this more accommodating to the continent that's actually hosting it and it all makes perfect sense

The sensible timings for me would have been 7.30pm, 10.00pm, and 12.30pm. 2.5hr gaps between KOs like they do in Premier League on a Sunday.

im not too arsed about the whole World Cup match times, but there genuinely is no reason why they couldn’t do a day schedule of games at 5pm/6pm uk time, 8pm/9pm, 11pm and then one at 1am??? like for those 5pm and 6pm games, they’re like 12pm in Texas and Georgia

@Crackheadfred1 @awndrezawndrez I'm not sure there's much merit to that. They're already hosting a semi-final and they've hosted multiple superbowls so they can surely handle large events. If anything the logistics during the group stages are trickier than the final

@awndrezawndrez NY has better metro and more hotel rooms to accommodate visitors. It would be a nightmare for a place like Atlanta to host a final with their roads. NY traffic is bad it's overall better from a logistical standpoint
