My little girl has gone from loving school in reception to refusing to go in in just one month of Year 1. Reasons making her sad are the use of stickers, rigid uniform policy and the new teacher being strict. Things we are constantly being told are in children’s best interest.

@RogersHistory Yes schools should ditch uniforms completely. They are an archaic tradition and so many countries do just fine without the additional expense, teenage battles against enforcement (which takes away from education) or ironing involved!

Would it be better for UK schools do just ditch school uniforms completely? Stories almost daily now about how parents are disgusted with one uniform rule or another, then you have the cost issue etc. is it worth it? Other countries don’t have them and seem to do ok?

Kids get sent home from school for wearing trainers with their uniform instead of smart shoes. But apparently it's just fine for our Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy to wear trainers with his suit while on an official visit to our most important ally? Good grief.

@ProfDanielMuijs Uniforms in schools are a ridiculous relic. Just an extra set of clothes to buy and make them wear for an arbitrary set of rules. Wear these “just because we say so”. Lack of choice or control can be so damaging and debilitating for some and no justified benefit for others.

Probably a cultural difference, but I've never really understood the obsession with school uniforms. It seems in cases I have observed to lead to a lot of wasted time spent policing shoes and ties.

The people of Clacton elected the leader of a UK political party as their MP. He is abroad bolstering his relationship with the next likely leader of the free world, not on "a holiday".
If only other party leaders had such a strong relationship we could all breathe more easily.
