Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

@RepNancyMace Thankfully, Americans already have that. If you can’t prove that American elections are unsafe, you have no business advocating for the SAVE act.

@MarshaBlackburn Could you please cite the evidence showing that our elections are not secure? Every study available shows just the opposite. You’ve created a lie to create a fear to justify your bill.
English

@GOP_is_Gutless He’s not carrying that weight for you or anyone else besides himself. Hatred and ambition are behind his hard work.

I do not care who gets mad at me for saying this: President Trump, Thank you for something far deeper than politics.
Thank you for waking up every morning at 79 years old and carrying a weight most people could never handle.
Thank you for the meals you missed, the family moments you never got back, the sleepless nights, the long flights, the endless pressure, and the burden of serving a country that never stops demanding more.
Thank you for getting back up every single time the world tried to bury you.
Thank you for enduring attacks, lies, betrayal, and pressure that would have broken most people for good.
Thank you for giving up comfort, privacy, peace, and the life you had built to sit in the hardest seat on earth and fight for this country.
You did not have to do any of this.
You already had the money, the success, the properties, the lifestyle, and the freedom.
You could have walked away.
Instead, you chose sacrifice.
You chose responsibility.
You chose America.
Thank you for everything you carried that so many never fully saw.
Thank you for every morning you chose this country over yourself.
We see you.
We appreciate you.
And we thank you.
God bless you.
God protect you.
And may God keep giving you the strength to carry what most people never could.

@jjauthor Perhaps you should read your Bible. The answer to your question is on every page.

@ThoughtCrimes80 To be clear, you’re saying that not singing happy birthday makes them non-American? I have many Muslim coworkers. They are the most patriotic people I know. They are kinder and more compassionate than people like you. I’m glad they’re here.
English

Today, I joined some friends at a nice restaurant in Colorado for lunch.
There was a table of 8-9 Muslim women in traditional burkas at an adjacent table. When desert was brought out, they all did the zaghrouta in Arabic. (You know, the loud lalalalalala).
And it got me thinking, how did they get here?
Why are they here?
What do they do here?
What do their husbands do here?
Why not immigrate and leave those cultural norms behind? Sing “happy birthday” like the rest of us.
Take the towels off your head.
You come to a country with freedom and continue to live the same way?
And then I thought…this isn’t normal.
I don’t want to see more of this.
I don’t want to share tables with people who want me dead for being a Christian.
I don’t want them in my country, state or city.
I don’t want to be “tolerant.”
I want simply, NOT to have them here at all.
This isn’t about bigotry, it’s about preserving one’s own comfort, culture and way of life.
And I know I’m not alone.
English

@laralogan Perhaps educators could use it to point out which commandments Trump has violated.
English

The Ten Comandments will stay in Texas schools - as they should.
Greg Abbott@GregAbbott_TX
HUGE WIN The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Ten Commandments can remain in Texas public school classrooms. The foundation of Western law & morality belongs in our classrooms. Texas stands for faith, freedom, and the values that founded our great state. houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…

@AbbyJohnson Detainment of immigrant children is traumatic. Cutting aid to poor children is murder. Indoctrinating children in MAGA lies and re-history is deeply dangerous. It should be illegal. Don’t wave the flag against abortion while your administration is destroying children daily.

President Trump participated in America Reads the Bible this evening by reading 2 Chronicles 7:11-22.

You can’t quote Scripture in public and then ignore it in practice.
Scripture says to feed the hungry, but this administration cut funding for food stamps so billionaires could get more tax breaks.
Scripture says welcome the stranger, but this administration sent ICE agents to terrorize immigrants and put them in a concentration camps.
Scripture says care for the sick, but this administration cut billions of dollars from Medicaid.
Scripture says lay down your sword, but this administration celebrates war.

President Trump read 2 Chronicles 7:11–22 during "America Reads the Bible," joining nearly 500 leaders in a weeklong event honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

@kat_maryb Who are talking about? I work with 5000 immigrants. Every one loves this country and is terrified with the administration trying to destroy the.

@SaraGonzalesTX I seriously doubt your young son is having difficulty making friends because they happen to be a different ethnicity. The greatest danger to your son is your racist perspective.
English

@DHSgov @WhiteHouse Nothing says Christian Nationalism like Homeland security quoting the Bible. Nothing explains better the conflict between Trump and the Pope like Homeland Security quoting the Bible. The homeland they have in mind is one that has no immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ, and the like.

@GuntherEagleman The elections are secure. Every significant study of them reveals the same thing. Even Project 125’s study. They are already secure. Further, SAVE is voter suppression not voter ID
