Building a Quarto+python project with the exact same framework and patterns I evolved for a completely different Rmd+R project in 2020, and it feels like catching up with an old friend Fun to see what's same or different, easier or harder

@andishehunyc @EmilyRiederer You should definitely try out quarto typst format to produce PDF. already some improved support in 1.5 for styling in pdf, same in html (so your gt tables look the same). And more improvement to come !

@IsabellaGhement @SolomonKurz Please do share feedback on our discussion board with what worked and what doesn’t. With table, there are several things that comes into play. main quarto feature that could interact is cross reference as quarto needs to tweak the table to add counter. thanks !

@SolomonKurz Yikes! I had to give up on Quarto for producing a Word report with fancy tables - nothing I tried got me close to what you can easily do with R Markdown. I guess Quarto has its uses but I was not impressed either with its obvious limitations.

I’ll be also presenting at #useR2024 Tuesday to talk about how Quarto can improve your publishing experience. If you don’t know yet what is quarto or you are still hesitant to try it from the confort of your Rmd knowledge, come listen ! 🤓 sched.co/1c8xG

@LegoAnand @joachimgoedhart It should work but taking screenshot of the app when you produce the static version. Or you need to provide conditional content to include only the app in the html output. And your own screenshot or other content for pdf output.

Hey #rstats folks, we at @cynkra_com build R+quarto docker images for quite some time. If you are in need for rocker/r-base + quarto, these might be helpful to you: hub.docker.com/repository/doc… Also includes variants with quarto pre-release.

We’re so excited to announce that you can deploy both #RStats and #Python Shiny apps on @huggingface Spaces using our Docker templates. Shiny is a great front-end for AI models, and we can’t wait to see what people build with this integration. shiny.rstudio.com/blog/shiny-on-…

@LucyStats @gshotwell @EcoLaurenY Common example of quarto website that use _freeze are using the initial workflow described: Render locally once the computation by rendering the document (incremental render), push including _freeze then website update using project render on CI. I'll look for other examples

📣 Hello #rstats friends! Has anyone solved caching quarto website files with Github Actions? The docs say "...These documents may need to have freeze individually enabled for them to prevent execution on CI." but I don't know how to do that 😅

@gshotwell @LucyStats @EcoLaurenY Just require to cache the freeze folder, possibly using the hashFiles function of GHA on the folder to invalidate caching and save new state. Or if commiting the _freeze folder by auto commiting any change in _freeze from the workflow

@gshotwell @LucyStats @EcoLaurenY freeze: auto should do the trick as you said. It will only (re)run computation document when source document (has changed) is new. Otherwise, it will render the output based on the _freeze state. This works for `quarto render` of project. Isn't it what you expect @LucyStats ?
