this is one of the most despicable NIMBY crusades I have ever seen: Millionaire homeowners in Chelsea (and, for some reason, Jack Schlossberg) are sponsoring lawsuits against rebuilding an 80 year old NYCHA campus, forcing tenants to live in dilapidated housing indefinitely

Great to see these street changes coming to 9th Ave—the city should take this opportunity to re-examine the zoning around here as well. The 1974 “Special Clinton District” imposed strict height limits, blocking new affordable housing and driving displacement in Hell’s Kitchen.

Yesterday, my wife and I (37) did our adult chores (taxes, cleaning), got lunch and saw a movie (5 stops away on train), walked over the Williamsburg Bridge at sunset, found dinner, walked around some more, took the train home, encountered dozens of strangers and pondered “life”

Can someone explain to us what urban 34-year-olds are doing in the cities that's so fun and special? We remember walking to the grocery store, trying to pack a week's worth of food into a small fridge and freezer, and maybe being robbed blind for mediocre food at a restaurant.

Ancillary units in your backyard is um fine, but how about also letting owners build buildings with ~3k floorplate to front and side lots lines so they can get FAR while keeping backyard

We want to make it as easy (and affordable) as possible for you to do that. NYC recently legalized ADUs — but for too many New Yorkers, they’re still tied up in bureaucracy and expense. We're fixing that. Our new toolkit at nyc.gov/aduforyou includes preapproved building plans and a financing calculator so you can get right to building. If we want New York to remain a city for everyone, we have to make it easier for homeowners to stay here. ADU for You will do just that.

One of the hardest fought wins in the big City of Yes zoning change was the legalization of “Ancillary Dwelling Units” (ADUs)—a tiny house in the back yard, home over a garage, basement apartment etc. This zoning change could unlock as much as 25k desperately needed new homes in NYC’s low-density neighborhoods…but only if homeowners take advantage it. Now @NYCHousing is launching new tools to help: find out if your address qualifies, access low-interest financing, see pre-made designs etc. All here: nyc.gov/aduforyou This is just one more way housing creation in NYC is entering a whole new era. Thanks to all who fought hard for this.
