@AngryBritishMum @LBC Surely answer is: he loses the ability to use his huge wealth and power to create real change in the world. And would give it to the government who would squander it among vested interests in order to gain votes.

James O'Brien: "If Bill Gates paid 99% tax, he'd still be a billionaire. So what does he lose by paying 99% tax?" Caller: "He would lose 99%" OB: "but he'd still be a billionaire, so what does he lose?" Listening to O'Brien try to understand economics is painful😖 #OBINGO @LBC

@cfc_sant0s This list is hilarious. Some bloke nobody’s ever heard of who takes part in a fake ‘sport’ nobody watches. Takes his hat off. And it gets better from there.

@dcsandbrook I was amazed to see a happy smiley show advertised about them. They are appalling people.

@thomasforth Tourist taxes seem to me a very good idea. Locations can decide on what balance they want to strike between number of visitors and income. Don’t want to pay. Don’t go. Nobody loses.

I've gotta feel that Amsterdam is hitting a good level on its tourist tax when even I'm thinking "flipping eck mate that's a bit steep!" --- at 12.5% it's the highest in Europe (Honolulu seems to be the world's highest). So an £80 hotel room generates an extra £10 local tax.

@CapelLofft This is amazing. I’m never up before 4.30am. Any earlier is crazy

@CapelLofft I love that episode. The academics are all "oooohhh muh structural and material factors ... UK was lucky with coal deposits don'tcha know ... national cultural genius is a myth" and Bragg politely says "B*llocks to that".

The BBC demonising the Chancellor for accepting tickets to a pop concert which I suspect was for the benefit of her children rather than herself. I can’t ever recall the BBC being critical of any Tory minister in the last government for accepting far more substantial gifts.

I'm getting back into In Our Time in a big way, and Bragg's sheer contempt for academics is inspirational

5 (Realistic) Policy Suggestions:   1. Bring in a tiny 2% wealth tax (= £24bn)  2. Invest that in NHS, Schools and Rewilding 3. And avoid welfare cuts for the worst off 4. Get growth via investing in green economy (grew 10% last year) 5. End arms sales to Israel - because it’s immoral.  What did I miss?

I hate the term 'soft skills.' I never use it. The skills that matter most aren't soft. They're as hard as concrete. And they separate the 0.1% from the rest.

What I love most about my Macmillan, Peel and Dizzy mugs is that I got them at the Ted Heath house museum in Salisbury and when I asked if they also sold a Ted Heath mug the lady at the shop said “no, we don’t make those”
