@MR_Noticer @bsromine “Living in civilization”—you have a funny way of spelling “funneling tax dollars to Democrats via teacher’s unions.”

@bsromine Paying taxes for schools is called living in a civilization. Good schools raise property values anyway so quit your bitching. As for SS I’m all for ending it.

Seeing a lot of post from youngsters complaining about property tax relief and “benefit” payments for “boomers.” First off, you’re really bitching about Gen X, not boomers. The real Biomers have been retired since you were in diapers. Second, I’ve paid property tax, most of which is for schools, for 30 years now. My wife and I have no children. So who subsidized who there? And third, yall want to not pay for my “benefits?” Fine. I went to SSA dot gov and got my earning record since 1985. Had I invested my FICA and Medicare tax in a simple index fund at the end of each year, I’d have $1,340,873. I will take that in cash please. Then yall can end my “benefit” payment.

@chrisped @PJSmith70 @ashleyschendel I homeschool my kids. And I pay my taxes. Happily. Because I’m not a child. I can understand that the world doesn’t cater to me. There is a greater good we are working toward, even if sometimes what benefits others doesn’t directly benefit me.

People keep acting like rising property taxes are automatically justified because “schools and services need funding,” but a lot of people look around and do not feel like the government is managing the money it already gets very well. Meanwhile an older couple can stay in the exact same house for 30 years, change nothing about their lifestyle, and still get hit with a higher tax bill because the area around them got expensive. That is not the same thing as being able to afford more.
Ashley Schendel@ashleyschendel

Seniors should not be priced out of a house they already paid for because the area around them got more expensive. They didn’t suddenly get richer because Zillow says the house is worth more. Most of them are living on fixed income, paying higher insurance, higher utilities, higher groceries, and then the tax bill shows up like they somehow got a raise. People can argue all day about how to fund schools and services, and that part does matter. But making older homeowners keep rebuying the same house every year through property taxes is exactly why so many people feel like ownership is never really ownership.

@ashleyschendel Property taxes are literally taxes on unrealized gains. Even worse, they are not indexed for inflation (and neither are capital gains taxes).

@MrInvigorator @NoContextBrits I'd rather flex not having a mentally unstable pedophile as a president, school shootings every week and a private army on the streets.

@NoContextBrits I lived in Texas for almost a decade. We saw 117°F (47°C) the year I had finally had enough. Some winters, we also saw lows below -7°C. Cry harder.

Watching Euros complain about air conditioning is not unlike watching zoomers complain about making sandwiches. The excuse-making is ridiculous.

@chrisped @ashleyschendel @PJSmith70 They weren't developing them until Trump backed out because he's a fragile beta soyboy cucked by the Dems superior deal. Now he can't even get a better deal than they had 🤣

@Smuckerdoodle6 @PJSmith70 @ashleyschendel You would prefer to use violence to make others pay for them on your behalf. The lion’s share of property taxes pays for this broken thing we call public education. Abolish it. Take responsibility for educating your own crotch spawn.

@PJSmith70 @chrisped @ashleyschendel I suppose we could just call it a day and make everything a subscription, including EMS and the police. That’s what the billionaires want, and these people are shilling for them for free on Twitter. They aren’t even getting paid for it. What a wild time to be alive.

@ashleyschendel @PJSmith70 It's what the majority of Americans want. Using our taxes to make healthcare more affordable is socialism/communism when it should be spent on wars with Iran so warmongers can profit.

@NeverNewsom50 @ashleyschendel You know the vehicle isn’t really what you’re paying for, right? It’s the train professionals inside the vehicle who are going to save your life or your livelihood. But hey, if you want to drive yourself to the hospital in a used ambulance after having a stroke, you do you

@PJSmith70 @ashleyschendel You’re moving the goalposts. The topic was AMBULANCES. What really frosts me is given what they charge for an ambulance ride, they pay EMTs what fry cooks make, and paramedics not a whole lot better.

@ashleyschendel Hmmm. Well, if your house is on fire and your kids are upstairs, I imagine in that moment you’d think every bit of whatever you (and every one of your neighbors) paid was well worth it for the firefighters who came to save them and your home.
