🚨We can measure waves along 10s of km of coastline with incredibly high resolution using seafloor telecommunication cables! We show an application of this for understanding waves in sea ice in our new GRL open-access publication: doi.org/10.1029/2023GL… 1/

A grand start— the cameras are still standing post-Tropical Storm Ophelia. Excited for continuous imagery of Masonboro over the next year to study beach evolution.

After an incredibly hard push by @christinembaker @mattware_phd @coasthelen, with support from @joewlong @NCReserve @UNCW_CMS, the stereo cams are up! Get ready for a year of MasonBEAST: Beach Evolution Assessment using Stereo Technology on Masonboro Island. So tired, so proud.

@TreillouS @melissarmoulton We performed a few dye release experiments, but primarily focused on trials with wiffle balls and foam as tracer. We currently don’t have plans to analyze the dye release experiments. I am happy to chat if you’re interested!

Rip currents are dangerous for swimmers but also ecologically important – here’s how scientists are working to understand these ‘rivers of the sea’ Thanks Emma Nuss for leading this article with Audrey Casper, @christinembaker, Walter Torres, and me theconversation.com/rip-currents-a…

Check out our article on rip currents. We talk about our ongoing work to better predict rip current hazards and their influence on coastal ecosystems:

🤔🤔🤔 Does anyone know of good NEUTRALLY BUOYANT ball sets (~golf ball size, or smaller) to be used in a wave flume to demonstrate wave orbital motion with depth? (like in this video) #FlumeFriday #flume #waveflume

Deploying wave buoys in the coastal Arctic with @jakedavis_sci aka ‘throwing things in the ocean from a helicopter’. Anyone who has worked in this area knows how lucky we were to have not just 1 but 2 beautiful Nov days for flying! @NSF @WHOI
