@JakubZigacek @secretsqrl123 It shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the countries who invented radar are still able to make the best radar out there.

europe is taking all the tec from the F35, moving it forward and making its own fighter that the US is not allowed to be part of. that should open some eyes.

@zumfunkraum @JamesMelville I keep up to date with recent changes, road priority hierarchy, etc, enough to know that, whilst the first version may have been written a long time ago, today’s amended and updated code is a very different beast. It sounds like ought to do a little refresher reading.

@JamesMelville The Highway Code was written, when? 1861?? The only cases of lane hogging are: 1. Lorries in the middle lane doing 50 mph 2. Cars in the middle/outside lane doing 55mph/60 mph. The rules were written at a time when traffic was far far less and thus much more applicable.

@robsellers123 Just had a load of work done. Offer all the lads a brew at the start, put out a tray so they can help themselves through the day, make sure they have free access to water at all times, it’s just basic decency. TBH, most look after themselves for drinks, but it’s nice to be nice.

Trev Clark's Obscure Aviation History 🚁
The Heinkel 100 was (at the time) the world's fastest fighter aircraft. It was rejected in favour of the Messerschmitt Bf109, for reasons still debated by historians today. Despite the cancellation, several were claimed as 'kills' by Allied pilots, early in World War Two!

Dropped by the thousand into occupied Europe, the Sten gun armed resistance groups from Normandy to the Balkans. It was simple enough for a partisan to strip, fire in seconds and was Britain’s answer to tyranny, one burst at a time.

@FullFact Isn’t there a special Act of Parliament related to his pension arrangements pre-dating his premiership? It’s something to do with his time as DPP.

Following Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation announcement today, we’ve seen claims that he will be entitled to a £115,000-a-year “pension” as a former Prime Minister. This is misleading. Here’s what that figure actually refers to 👇 fullfact.org/politics/keir-…

June 20th 1982: Thatcher's decision to take back the South Sandwich Islands has been a smart move. In 1977 James Callaghan and David Owen had launched the futile Operation Journeyman, sending HMS Phoebe and HMS Dreadnought down there, achieving nothing... 1/2

@FindingTrinity @afneil Assuming the other three quarters will back him in an election would be the height of hubris, and totally on brand for Starmer and his cabal. If he follows this logic he faces utter humiliation.

@afneil Likely Starmer thinks, if Andy has a quarter of Labour MPs, then the other three quarters could be loyal to their PM! I think Starmer will fancy winning on these numbers. If he beats Burnham, he's unassailable. That's his calculation, I guess.

@OContandor @CutMyTaxUK I bet you call BS when the sorry argument that we have to ‘pay for the best’ is rolled out to justify public and private sector senior exec pay. Let’s pay normal salaries and accept good enough.

It is a trade union, not a charity. (Although would you whinge about the pay of charity execs too?) At the end of the day, a union is a membership organisation and needs people who are capable of working for their members. You won't achieve that by offering Organisers minimum wage. They aren't doing simple work.

It's lucrative work if you can get it. It turns out that Scottish TUC head & high tax fanatic Roz Foyer owns five homes. An embarrassed Foyer, who is married to senior Unison official Simon Macfarlane, said: “I’ve worked in the trade union movement a long time, doing work I believe in. That work paid well". As the private sector is gradually crushed under the weight of taxes it could be that working for trade unions will become one of the few remaining ways of accumulating wealth.

@afneil I suspect his focus (should he become PM) will be on net zero and the benefits bill to finance defence and infrastructure. Cutting NI back to the previous rate could also help.

A welcoming present just out this morning for a Mr A Burnham to underline just how limited his latitude as PM will be: The UK government borrowed £23.3 billion last month, 30 per cent or £5.4 billion higher than a year earlier. It was also more than the £18.8 billion expected by most economists and the £17.7 billion forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility, the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog.  The interest payable on government debt rose to £11.7 billion, the highest ever recorded in any May.

Keir Starmer has just sent a message - from the G7 - to Andy Burnham that he can surrender any hope that he will walk away from being prime minister in any kind of smooth or orderly transfer of power. These are his on-camera words “So very many times on my political journey people have said to me ‘it's not possible.’ They said it's not possible to turn the Labour Party around, it’s not possible to win an election, it’s not possible if you do win an election to invest in your public services and stabilise the economy. Wrong every time. And that's why I intend not to walk away from this, but to carry on with what I was elected to do, which is to serve this country and bring back the change that people desperately need in their lives.”

The head of the armed forces Sir Richard Knighton has just revealed something shocking about the defence budget💥 He said during a House of Lords committee meeting that the armed forces would have to "dial back" its work if he doesn't get any more money. He was responding to a series of questions from Lord Robertson, who asked whether the reported £10bn spending uplift offered to John Healey - prompting his resignation - was enough.

Safety, of course, is by far the most important metric. But it’s not the only one. And in that regard all major Western airlines (primarily US, Canadian, and European carriers) have roughly the same excellent safety records, with differences that are minimal and often statistically insignificant. Given that, it is only right to then debate quality of service. @British_Airways
Kay Burley@KayBurley

Customer service can always be debated, but I have to say in an industry where safety is the only metric, Andrew, @British_Airways record is second to none.

@imlirvingit Your proposal might make some vague sense if the U.K. pension wasn’t so incredibly miserly compared to our European peers. Here’s an idea, raise it to the National Minimum Wage and subject it to normal taxation. Fair?
