@PejicPatrick Yeah, many Capcom arcade ports on Dreamcast use poorly scaled assets (384->640 scaling) in the game itself.
There was some discussion about it 3 years ago on twitter regarding HW1 (twitter.com/chriz2600/stat…, unfortunatly partially gone now)
I'll look into it again :)

@SvtTerminator @djpweb @citrus3000psi Dreamcast does not have a 384 horizontal pixel output (unlike e.g. the PS1). It always outputs 858 raw pixels, with the inner 640 being the visible area. DCDigital does not perform any kind of horizontal scaling, except pixel repetition. 1/3
English

@chriz2600 if it is this kind of problem that we have on the dreamcast is it possible to find a solution thanks to the power of the Dc hw2 for a next update, as you know the sega consoles have a reputation for being very good in 2D game conversion at the base,>
English

@PejicPatrick If you want pixel perfect nearest neighbor scaling on 1080p, you have to either use a 2.0x scale factor, resulting in the same image you get on DCDigital HW1 (960p frame in a 1080p image), or you can use 1440p, which gives you an integer 3.0 (pixel perfect) scaling.
English

@PejicPatrick To help with uneven scale factors, you can use the interpolation settings, but those will introduce some blurriness. Sharp often is a good compromise between eveness and blurriness.
English

@PejicPatrick Which output resolution are you using, and what are your "Scaler" (OSD->Video->Scaler) settings?
English

@chriz2600 So of course I play with the basic settings and the standard ratio on the OSD, and I say that this may not be hasn't been mentioned since. I don't know if it's me or the firmware version that has a problem at this level. I can provide a video if you wish.
English

@PostmanMods Fonts/character sets can be loaded dynamically from the MCU to the FPGA in FX-Framework (as well as OSD size and position on screen).
And for the graphic to character conversion, I have scripts to automate the process :)
English

@chriz2600 Oh cool! So not a bitmap from nvm but something saved a rom in firmware and is read out in the corner? How long did it take you to draw it out? Sounds tedious hahaha
English

@PostmanMods Actually, the whole controller overlay is "text", the graphics are a custom character set :)
English

@chriz2600 Cool! I'm guessing it is drawing a bitmap of the DC controller and then you are centering the read analog values in the window there? You never cease to amaze with your technical abilities.
English

@bytesaber_ Not sure. A big part of the overlay processing is done on the ESP (not the FPGA) and the ESP8266 used on HW1 is much less powerful and has less RAM than the ESP32 used on HW2.
At this point, DCDigital HW1 will likely only receive bug fix releases.
English

@chriz2600 Can that squeeze onto the DCDigital 1 ? Any updates for hw1 ever likely again?
English

@cyothevile It’s more like a controller overlay to be open while playing/streaming :) But sure, can be used as tester as well.
English

@chriz2600 Wow, that’s awesome! Is it possible to make the black areas to the left and right of the screen green, so you can use OBS’s chroma tool to remove it? Then it would be a “floating” controller for livestreams.
English

@leonkiriliuk @samson7point1 @citrus3000psi No it can't support it. There's no SDRAM, no real clock gen and a much less powerful ESP on the older HW.
All required to run FX-Framework properly.
From our experience with the PS1Digital (which btw supports the new software) the Trion also runs cooler than the Intel FPGA.
English

@samson7point1 @citrus3000psi Based on my quick glance of the data sheets, the Intel FPGAs have a lot more logic blocks. The Trion chips while good also run a lot hotter based on other projects I follow. At the end of the day it’s always the software. The older HW should support the new software 100%.
English

@zaneiken07 @INSIDIOUSZ09 Yes, HW1 has less button combos which are already not interfering by default.
English

New #DCDigital firmware 2.1.29.14 (available on all update channels) allows restricting controller combos to be compatible with techniques commonly used in "Marvel vs Capcom 2"
Thanks to @INSIDIOUSZ09 for reporting!

DC Digital HW2 install on a Naomi 2 for @bxbennyg1, a bit of a pain cause I did not have all my hardware here to load a game. The test showed fine in the boot up screen, thanks a bunch to @citrus3000psi and @chriz2600 for doing this and @Ryo151 check it out bro.

So much fun installing my first DC Digital V2. Well done team @PixelFXco. Go get it here: shop.modinfrance.fr/en/dreamcast/4…

Just finished installing the new DCDigital from @PixelFXco and I’m seriously impressed! Here’s the install video and a brief rundown of its features
