720 Bathurst - A Bailout by Another Name? As reported, City Hall's purchase of 720 Bathurst Street comes after CSI faced financial strains post-pandemic with a $17.44M mortgage (renewed at 6.5% in September 2024) and was facing $5M in deferred building repairs and projected future cashflow deficits. The City of Toronto's purchase of 720 Bathurst Street removes CSI's mortgage burden, transfers building upkeep to the public, and allows consolidation at 192 Spadina Ave. - exactly the stabilization outcome CSI identified as necessary in it's 2025 offering. A financially strained civic hub has been rescued with $16M in public capital. Is this a bailout by another name?

I love this idea. The councillor for Ward 11, which contains so many local gems that could benefit from pedestrianization, should be behind it 100%.

This is the time! I have been calling for the creation of a pedestrian authority in Toronto that has responsibility for street furniture, festivals, permanent pedestrian areas, enabling technology, design, bikes, parking, cafeTO and more…and as a goal one permanent location per ward should be chosen and implemented open.substack.com/pub/torontopol… This is even more necessary now due to the over subscription to single weekend street festivals, which due to temporary infrastructure and security plans become unwieldy, dangerous, expensive and frankly low quality compared to other cities permanent pedestrian areas.

The thing cycle bros don’t understand, when they don’t run a cycling advocacy - they get information way earlier than the general public. Advocates like @CycleToronto are also consulted more. This is the problem for anyone else who needs road or curb access. @NoCyclopathTO
