A couple of interesting and complex conversations I had with colleagues today, would love folks’ thoughts. Imagine a Ranked matchmaking system for League that could perfectly place you at your skill level (defined as 50% expected WR) in 5 games.

to sharpen the experience orientation a bit; if you go from g4 to p4 instantly you could have a lot of +30/-12 at 50% wr or if you stay in g4 you could have a high expectancy winstreak at +/-25 which one is actually more satisfying? why?

as part of this broader effort, we're going to ban a bunch of accounts that have been commercially botted/leveled/sold/shared. we see the work of improving game quality as a systemic issue that we have to solve systemically. this is another part of that.

one of our big projects for the rest of the year is killing smurfing & alt account abuse. we’re going after account selling & sharing, boosting, and duo boosting starting in 25.18, with more to come later this year. legit alts safe. read/watch below what else do you hope we do?

what smurfing means to us: people who try to trick our skill evaluation and matchmaking systems to get into lobbies they don't belong in. this includes buying accounts that other people have played on. if you make an alt to offrole and play it yourself, it's our job to place you

Taking action against boosters In 25.18, we're going to be taking major actions against Boosters, Hitchikers involving a booster and Purchased and Botted accounts, ranging from Ranked Reward stripping + reversion to perma bans. We'll share back results on how many accounts in a future update. As a reminder, up to this point, we have banned 1.4 Million accounts that have been purchased and used to ruin Ranked games and we're not stopping. This includes over 4000 accounts in Master+ Competitive integrity is super important to all of you and to us and this is just the start of what we're doing to ensure that when you load into a game, it is matchmade fairly. Hand-leveling If you hand leveled an account and it was only ever yours, so long as you don't engage in Ranked manipulating behaviors like de-ranking, we won't be touching these. Without getting into details: we will for sure lose money and monthly actives from the choice to crack down on smurfing. For years, players said we would never do this because we’re too afraid to do the right thing for the game if it loses money. We believe in the game’s future.
