Just a PSA about treating high cholesterol: I recently helped two young women who were told to take meds for high cholesterol calculate their 10-year ASCVD risk Both had 10-year risk less than 3%. Why aren't primary care clinicians using a risk equation?

@ebtapper I do not think any observational artificial sweetener studies are trustworthy. They typically pile together highly different molecules like aspartam, saccharine, sugar alcohols - observing effects - highly suggestive of a confounder related to the intake of sweeteners?

I was just sent this press release from UEGW eurekalert.org/news-releases/… Using UK biobank, the claim is made that diet soda causes MASLD and liver-related death. Such results can only be the result of confounded designs or calculation errors

I once heard a story about machine learning reading chest x-rays for lung cancer and it turned out the thing that was most predictive was the port / central veinous catheter in the x-ray is this from a paper? did I make it up?

@DrBloodandGuts Add pressure with your scope/cap, and fetch the snare or the hot forceps, whatever is fastest, to coag. If the snare does not work, switch to the forceps. If things get sketchy at this point and its difficult to find the bleed i usually inject some adrenaline, clean, wait.
