Always nice to bump into volcanologists in the wild, but shame about the circumstances. Some of the LAX #IAVCEIstranded contingent from the cancelled NZ3 flight wondering what happens next. Thoughts with those in Auckland dealing with the emergency situation.

Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to UK public health. The @metoffice Atmospheric Survey Aircraft has been observing common pollutants as part of the @uk_cleanair project to develop air quality models that help people to stay safe & thrive. Learn more 👇

It’s 10 years since the eruption of Grímsvötn caused disruption to European air traffic. Scientists studying the dispersion of the ash cloud have improved the NAME model output & its application in the London VAAC forecasting system. Full research paper👉 bit.ly/3eYs5pe

Does anyone know of reports on effect of lockdown on UK air quality / clarity? @volcanofile @claire_horwell @claireswitham? How much is Fort William affected by transatlantic activity?
Es Tresidder @[email protected]@EsTresidder

Air seems exceptionally clear to me this spring. Folk who know more about #airpollution than I do, could lockdown be a factor in such a rural area (Fort William)? Fewer cars, no steam train 3 times a day, smelter closed etc.
