‘Israeli’ propagandists and antisemites alike want you to believe that to oppose ‘Israel’ is to be antisemitic. This is a lie. The problem is not Jewishness or Judaism. The problem is Zionist colonization and its benefactor: US imperialism.

What did Nicaragua’s president really say about elections? The president's statements given on the anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution have prompted a reaction from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who vowed to take action in response. On July 19, during celebrations marking the 47th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution (which overthrew the US-backed Somoza dictatorship after more than four decades in power) Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega declared that US-backed political parties would “never” return to power in Nicaragua. “Don’t think that just because there’s no war we’re at peace,” said the president. “They [the US-backed opposition] are constantly conspiring, organizing, trying to figure out how to create parties so that in an election – an election they’re supposed to hold – those parties will win. And that’s the end of the story of parties installed by the Yankees, installed by the Somoza supporters, ever coming back to power. Never, never, never.” US officials and Western media claim Ortega vowed to end elections His speech has garnered both support from the Sandinista movement and harsh criticism from the opposition. However, the harshest response likely came from outside Nicaragua – from the United States, a country that has imposed sanctions on Nicaragua in recent years. Headlines in US and Western media were full of claims that Ortega had ended democracy, citing that the president had said “there will be no more elections.” Latin American journalist Camila Escalante refutes these claims. In a post on X, she said the Sandinista leader’s remarks “have been purposely taken out of context and have been mistranslated.” The full quote is the following: “They will never see another election where they can attempt to seize power by cheating their way into government. We’re going to work with the National Assembly and the relevant organizations on laws that will put up a wall against the coup plotters and the traitors, and no matter how much money the Yankees give them, they won’t succeed,” Ortega said before thousands of supporters. However, echoing headlines in the corporate media, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, via X, stated that his country will take action against the Ortega government: “The Trump Administration and the international community will not stand by as the Murillo-Ortega dictatorship deepens repression at home and manufactures instability that threatens US national security. Ortega’s pledge to abolish elections in Nicaragua proves his cowardice and fear of the Nicaraguan people’s will.” For its part, the US State Department issued a statement saying: “Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have abandoned even the pretense of popular consent. The Nicaraguan people have the right to choose their own leaders through democratic elections. The United States calls on the international community to join forces to demonstrate to the Murillo-Ortega dictatorship that it cannot expect to maintain business as usual with other nations when it is thwarting the basic tenets of our democratic hemisphere.” Nicaragua begins to implement Ortega’s announcement A few hours later, Nicaragua’s National Assembly stated in an official communiqué that it will initiate the necessary processes to develop a “Work Plan” to move forward with Ortega’s directives. “The National Assembly will hold special sessions with the Supreme Electoral Council to ensure the constitutional, legal, and formal steps that underpin the reforms for a state and establish pathways that guarantee the legal foundations of this momentous aspect of institutionality and support the political, democratic, sovereign, and free practices of our national and local electoral processes,” the legislature said in an official statement. Foreign interference in elections in Latin America and the Caribbean Nicaragua’s efforts to change the legal infrastructure around elections are taking place in a broader regional context. Countries across the region have seen repeated allegations of foreign interference, disinformation campaigns, and electoral irregularities. Leaked recordings known as “Hondurasgate” exposed discussions involving senior Honduran officials, former president Juan Orlando Hernández, allies of Donald Trump, Javier Milei, and other regional actors regarding coordinated efforts to undermine progressive governments in the region, including Mexico and Colombia, through media operations and political destabilization campaigns. In the last few years, the region has seen a succession of right-wing advances in Ecuador, Panama, Chile, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, and, most recently, Colombia. Analysts have described this as a new “Angry Tide” – a coordinated resurgence of the Latin American far right, backed politically and diplomatically by Washington and increasingly aligned with transnational conservative networks seeking to reverse the gains of the Pink Tide. Following Colombia’s razor-thin presidential election, President Gustavo Petro likewise challenged the legitimacy of the result, citing alleged irregularities and demanding greater scrutiny of the vote. Similar fraud allegations also surrounded Honduras’ recent election, where critics argued that irregularities in the vote count and outside political pressure benefited the right-wing victory. From this perspective, Nicaragua’s decision to tighten electoral restrictions on parties receiving foreign backing can be viewed not as an unprecedented rejection of democracy, but as a defensive response in a context of foreign intervention against progressive governments throughout Latin America.

Six months after the killing of her son, Alex Pretti, his mother is sharing a heartbreaking message about the grief she says has only deepened with time. In an emotional post marking the six-month anniversary of Alex’s death, she writes that no one has been held accountable and says her family has never received an apology or even a single phone call from government officials, hospital personnel, or the Minneapolis Police Department. At the same time, she expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support her family has received from people around the world, urging others to continue speaking out and never forget what Alex stood for. Her full statement: “Today marks the six-month anniversary of Alex’s murder. No-one has been held accountable, no apologies, not a single phone call from any governmental official, hospital personnel, or the Mpls police dept. Six-months of pain, a roller-coaster of trauma over and over. Every time another a death, another mention, a picture, a tribute, a sorrow so deep. I wonder how to move forward. Will I ever get over this loss and this pain? Will I ever be able to enjoy life again? How does one live knowing that I have no power to change what has happened? And yet the out-reach not only from Minnesota, but from around the world has been nothing less than spectacular. Every card, every gift, every heartfelt letter has been read, touched, held, and cherished by us all. The kindness you’ve all shown us is beyond words. Please never forget Alex and what he believed in ~ equality and peace for all. I will remember the things that made you, you. It will never take your memory. As long as I’m here, you will never be forgotten. For all you asking what you can do. Continue this fight. Never give up your right to speak out, protect your neighbor, your community and don’t forget to spend time with those you love…”

Obama was the first and only Nobel Prize winner who bombed another Nobel Prize winner, a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan, mass murdering at least 43 people, including burning patients alive in their hospital beds. He destroyed Libya as a nation and people, bringing back slave markets to it and destroying the lives of millions. He did the same with Syria by setting up the largest CIA operation in history to destroy the country. He ordered the Azov Nazi coup in 2014 that directly led to the destruction of Ukraine as a nation and people. He gave Israel the biggest military package it has ever received in history, a 38 billion dollar MoU in 2016 that lasted for a decade and is directly used to fund the ongoing genocide. He killed countless civilians with drones, including Americans. He oversaw the CIA-Mossad coup in Egypt that mass murdered over 2600 people in a single day with the Rabaa Massacre in Cairo, A SINGLE DAY, and led to the installment of a fascist military dictatorship that has destroyed the lives of millions of Egyptians. He refused to apologize for the Hiroshima mass genocidal murder of Japanese civilians. He rigged the primary for Genocide Joe leading directly to Trump's second term. The list goes on and on. And Zohran knows all this. We know for a fact that he knows all this because he called him a war criminal. But now he's using his own status as a pseudo-radical to launder Obama's record, which of course only makes him a more potent weapon when he again decides to rig another primary, because hey, the cool hip new guy also said Obama is a Saint and God so the liberal Democratic personality cult is entirely warranted.

Zohran Mamdani: “Democrats have been branded as socialists for longer than I can remember. I remember President Obama being called a socialist almost every single day by Republicans and it didn’t stop him from delivering not just on his first term but his second term. People are hungry for a vision of the Democratic Party that has more to do with the New Deal than the raw deal that so many Americans have been forced to accept”

I have been briefed on today’s horrifying stabbings on the Upper West Side, where an Asian man and a Jewish man were attacked. According to witness and victim statements, the perpetrator yelled “Allahu Akbar” during both attacks. I am relieved that both victims are in stable condition. The NYPD responded immediately and arrested Raul Morales in connection with both assaults—and I am grateful to the officers for their swift response. The NYPD’s initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor. They are also evaluating these stabbings as potential hate crimes. These hateful and despicable attacks have no place in our city.
Jessica S. Tisch@NYPDPC

This afternoon, two people were stabbed in separate attacks on the Upper West Side. Both victims — an Asian male and a Jewish male — were removed to Mt. Sinai-St. Luke’s Hospital, and both are expected to survive.  The NYPD has arrested 51-year-old Raul Morales in connection with both assaults, and no other people are being sought. Detectives are continuing to work the case and determine motive, but according to victim and witness statements, Morales yelled “Allahu Akbar” during both attacks. The NYPD is currently evaluating whether this is a potential hate crime. While the perpetrator has no known mental health history with the NYPD, the initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor. At this time there is no known link between Morales and either of the victims, nor between the victims and each other. I want to commend the bravery of a good Samaritan who led our officers to the location where the perpetrator was hiding, as well as our NYPD cops who brought an end to the incident without further injuries.
