Fee waivers for related costs. Easier access to vital records offices. Transportation assistance (like rides or vouchers to get to offices). Support for taking time off work (such as flexible scheduling or paid leave options for low-income workers). Outreach programs or mobile services to help affected groups. The right to vote is a fundamental part of American democracy—it shouldn't be unnecessarily hard for eligible citizens to exercise it. Many other Western democracies provide national ID cards that are often free or low-cost, with government assistance to help citizens obtain or replace them for voting and other purposes. Why doesn't the SAVE Act include simple measures like these to help these groups get what they need? Is strict Voter ID about stopping perceived fraud, or is it really about adding hurdles to vote for women, college students, low-income, elderly & disabled people who lean Democratic? If we're serious about election security, why not invest a tiny fraction of what we spend on other priorities to make sure every eligible American can participate easily? That strengthens democracy for all of us, not just some.
