Zohran isn’t a revolutionary, but he is trying to make life better for everyone. And that’s what politics is supposed to be about, isn’t it?

It almost feels like Earth was made perfectly for humans, with water falling from the sky and food growing naturally, yet we still ended up in a system where people need credit scores, two jobs, and a 40 hour work week just to survive.

I can guarantee you most people don’t even want to be millionaires or billionaires. They just want to make enough to be comfortable, not living paycheck to paycheck.

The record temperature for May was broken by an entire 2C today, and tomorrow it is likely to be even warmer. The Met Office has been recording temperatures all around the UK for 173 years. This is not a blip it is a very serious problem.

@rawespresso Absolute bs. On £120k don’t bother with holiday home, bigger house higher spec car and private school fees. Spend time with family, friends and those you love and you are by every possible measure, a rich man.

Golden handcuffs are the most expensive trap in the UK professional class. You take a £120K job. The salary feels life-changing for the first 6 months. Then the lifestyle catches up — the mortgage on the bigger house, the kids' private school fees, the car finance, the holiday cottage in Cornwall, the partner who's also stopped earning to look after the kids. The £120K, once a luxury, has become the minimum required to keep the life running. The job becomes impossible to leave because the entire structure of your life depends on it. You stop questioning whether you actually like it. You start measuring everything against the salary you'd be giving up. The lads who 'made it' in the City, in law, in tech management are the most trapped people in the country. Their version of freedom is being able to afford to retire by 55, after 25 years of work they couldn't escape from. The lads with no salary and no fixed costs have more genuine freedom at 27. What looks like the prize from the outside is actually the bait. The salary holds you in place better than any contract could.

I think I stated changing my view about Israel at a 1980s party in Manhattan where someone raised a New York Times story about IDF making it policy to break hands of Palestinian boys. “There goes a generation of Palestinian pianists!”, one wit quipped. They all laughed. I walked away, left soon.

🟢 EXCL: Senior Green Party figures have urged Zack Polanski to consider stepping aside for Andy Burnham in the Makerfield by-election if the Greater Manchester mayor commits to introducing proportional representation Green councillors, activists and former party leaders have signed a joint statement warning that the party should approach the contest with “trepidation” The letter, whose signatories include Jonathan Bartley, who led the party between 2016 and 2018, and Rupert Read, a former Green councillor and author, says that Burnham’s election presents a “unique opportunity” to secure reform “In all reality this is not a seat Greens can win. It will be a straight fight between Labour and Reform. But it’s no ordinary by-election. Labour’s candidate, Andy Burnham, is looking to return to Westminster to lead in parliament.” “If Burnham will commit to backing proportional representation for the next general Labour election manifesto so that it is in place by the election after next, then on this unique occasion we don’t think Greens should run a full campaign against him,” the letter says Full read in @thetimes 👇 thetimes.com/article/16d6ba…

@daisyeastlake I suppose it was only a matter of time before the establishment found some useful idiots inside the Green Party to build an anti-Zack Polanski faction to undermine his leadership from within and return the Greens to an electoral irrelevance while they replace Labour with Reform.

NOBODY tells you the real reason people move to Dubai. It’s not the taxes. Everyone leads with the taxes because it’s the easy answer. The real reason is quieter and harder to admit. It’s that for the first time in your life, the country is on your side. You spend 30 years in the West being treated like a suspect. Your bank watches you. Your government taxes you and resents you for earning it. The news tells you that wanting to be successful makes you the problem. Then you land here and something flips. The bank wants your business. The government wants you to build. Nobody looks at your wealth like you stole it. Nobody makes you apologize for working hard. You don’t realize how heavy that weight was until somebody takes it off your back. That’s the part the haters will never understand. They think people move here to dodge a tax bill. People actually move here to stop feeling like a criminal for doing well. 🇦🇪
