Just be careful buying used equipment on places like ebay or online. There are plenty of sellers who will say things like 'reconditioned' and it's just cleaned with some cleaner on the outside. When it comes to reel to reel you have to figure out what you are going to do with it. Do you want one to play existing tapes from the 60s and 70s? If so then you want a 4 track deck generally 3.75 or 7.5 ips tape speed. Do you want to play or make master tapes? Then you need a 2 track deck that supports 15ips and preferably both NAB and IEC equalization (IEC is better). If you want to do multi track recording then a 4 or 8 track deck is your thing paired with a mixer panel. For myself I have an Akai gx-630d, Pioneer RT-707 and Pioneer RT-909 for playing regular pre-recorded music. I've found that the RT-707 is the best for old recording because it's very gently on tape. For 2 track I have a Pioneer RT-1050 and Pioneer RT-2022 that both play at 15ips. I have some other decks mainly for collecting purposes although they work and I do play tapes on them occasionally. Do your homework before buying one because reel to reel decks can be very expensive not just to purchase but to fix if anything is wrong. A good restoration will cost about $1,000 above and beyond what you pay for the deck. I did a restore on a deck myself an Akai X-150d a few years back and it took me about 6 months to source all of the parts and about 16 hours doing the restore (replace broken parts, belts, complete recapping, new amplifier transistors, and modification of the 50/60hz ac circuit to work from a single switchable startup capacitor, but today it plays as good as new. But it was a ton of work. I still have some decks I want to own: A Tascam BR20, Nagra (flexible but would love the spy version), and a Studer multitrack such an A80. Just as an FYI, reel to reel is fun and amazing but it's a very expensive hobby to get into. The machines are expensive and the tape can get expensive as well although it's still possible to buy new R2R tape on Amazon and other sites. Check this video from the youtuber, Techmoan, he did a great intro for reel to reel newbies: youtube.com/watch?v=UnZXmp…

@MassSkeptic @engineers_feed I am interested in acquiring one of these. Would you be so kind to suggest where I could buy one, and maybe a model or two to look for?

@engineers_feed I’m a collector of vintage reel to reel tape decks. Until the 90s all music was mastered on tape. I love the analog experience, reels turning, buttons to push and it’s still possible to buy original master tapes from that era.

When Botswana became independent, their GDP/per capita was only $90 per person (in 2020 USD). They had less than 15% of nearby South Africa's GDP per capita. They've not only caught up, they now have a 32% higher GDP than South Africa. GDP per capita has grown 75x in 55 years.

I've been feeling so many emotions since last night, but I need to say a huge thank you to everyone! Thank you to #WardKarhiio for believing me at the voting stations, and to Edmontonians who supported my campaign. Today is a new day and I'm ready to get to work!

@theToddHirsch It would be interesting to know the relative percentage who are retirees. Is this a baby boomer effect?

From today's Owl: Alberta continues to lose people to other provinces, especially BC. This is happening while Alberta companies are reporting labour shortages. #reputation_matters

As we approach stage 2 of re-opening in BC let’s never forget that at one point our government legitimately suggested using glory holes.

I’ve been obsessively paying attention to the news for about 15 years now and the most infuriating thing to me is that “experts” can get things completely wrong, mock the people who get them right, never apologize or even acknowledge it, and continue being “experts.”
