A truly unbelievable amount of grown men going to bat for "Brown Eyed Girl", the worst "blackvoice" quasi hippie love song ever acclaimed by any criterion, a song that features American songwriting visionary Morrison—composer of "Madame George"—saying "A Bip Bap Bip Bap Bip Bip!"
my life is a living hell. every minute is torture@on_da_spectrum

I think a lot about what it must be like to be Van Morrison. Leave your band, score a massive hit with the worst song ever, spend the next 15 years releasing perfect albums, still everybody at your shows just wants to hear you play, the worst song ever

@johnvvariety 1st, Brown Eyed Girl is leaps better than anything Billy ever put out. Second, you're not really in a position to call anyone a moron after bellyaching about "American" Van Morrison.

@NotFarad Two Dancers, Smother and Past/Present are all great. Not as big on their first or last albums, although they've got their moments.

It was pretty hard to make this chart, with how many ways a vocal performance can stand out etc it would be hard to narrow it down to 50 even. This is not a ranking nor a definitive top 9, but it's all albums where vocals are fucking spectacular and a high point of the record

@OfAthenry They were always a great band, one of the best bands throughout the 90s. But suddenly the last 10 years or so twitter and youths like to hate on them for some reason.

They’re great. Frusciante is a savant and I find few things more appealing than his raw unprocessed strat tone. Slovak too was an interesting and unique musician. Anthony is a great lyricist, a broken jock party monster trapped in adolescence straining for meaning and experience

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are not good, and I'm tired of people pretending that they are.

@clownmalenko @matthewstoller Why dont you read the article i linked if you are going to respond. It addresses this connection. Its not gambling there is a material harm and destructive consequences that makes the distinction important.

Bit overwhelmed after listening to that, Back to Fourteen especially has ruined me. I hope it’s cathartic for him but right now I just feel sorry for James having to claw at this every night on stage. A very powerful record.

Listening to the new Twilight Sad album feels a bit like poking at someone’s open wounds. It’s incredibly raw but still manages to be somehow euphoric despite the subject matter. Scotland’s best band by a considerable margin.

@akamaxpower I’ve drifted away from them a bit over the past while but I think I’ve seen them (and cried) in every venue Glasgow has to offer over the years
