@emh203 I use those sources a lot, but always compare them against the datasheet and adjust the layers and other things according to our usage.

A bad footprint library will goat fuck you for months, even years, all while bleating loudly on every thrust. Don't get caught in the trap that sch/footprint "libraries" make any sense. Software libraries make sense as they are instantly testable. All public CAD libraries have zero provenance and traceability to anything that matters. A schematic / PCB reference design that has been manufactured 10k times is a much better "library". It has been through reflow oven 10k times. I only use external stuff that I know has gone through a reflow oven at scale. This part is a good example of why: IPC 7531 : horse shit. Kicad libraries : horseshit. Altium 365 : horseshit. SnapEDA : triple horse shit and a dumpster fire The job of librarian is horseshit too. The person who has to stay late to scrape traces or writes the check to cover the fuckup is the one who should make the footprint. They have actual skin in the game. And dont use the excuse "my part is a complex 300 pin device". That is exactly the reason to invest the time. Why would you delegate such a critical thing to an entity who doesn't give a shit out of the outcome?

@cazaugg @blind_via I have a board with 3K components, can export without any problems.

@blind_via Just an example. They have output jobs that can do 3D model export. Except it only works if you board has less than ~500 parts. Otherwise it bugs out. Altium can reproduce it but wont fix because you can buy a cloud plugin for 1000$ per year to do proper 3d exports in the cloud.

KiCAD PCB putting priority on the 3d modeling quality was the best they could have ever done. Once again, this is what Altium did before them. They literally copied Altium bar for bar with this viewer. Say it with me folks: EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE LIKE ALTIUM!

@emh203 I am also developing something similar but to check the footprint against the BoM with the gerber. This looks super nice.

this is an example of an svg +html based viewer using hlr projections for assy references the component projections are computed from the embedded 3d model data.
