@AlanLupiani @KobeissiLetter Not in this case. It has more to do with gate availability and route structure. Not as fluid as other industry sectors might be.
English

@KobeissiLetter Perhaps the idea is to cannibalize Spirits assets across the industry instead of having one carrier control the vast majority of the industry itself. Isn’t that more in line with an available liquidity and a free market system rather than having the whole industry monopolized?
English

This is truly unfortunate:
In 2022, JetBlue had agreed to merge with Spirit Airlines in a $3.8 billion transaction.
This was intended to end Spirit's imminent bankruptcy and employ the majority of Spirit's 17,000 employees.
One year later, in 2023, the US Department of Justice sued to block the merger, saying it would reduce competition and drive up fares.
Fast forward another 2 years to today, and Spirit has officially gone bankrupt, ceased operations, and 17,000 people are now unemployed.
And, tens of thousands of Spirit passengers are now "stranded."
The worst part?
The "reduced competition" that the DOJ thought they were avoiding by blocking the transaction has only gotten worse.
There quite literally is no competition in the space anymore.
This will go down as one of the biggest transactional failures in US history.

@Rank1Apples @palmettoarmory You are not overreacting. Showing your ID to a local, human FFL is not the same thing as giving sensitive information to one or more 3rd parties online. If PSA doesn't understand the difference they deserve to go out of business.
English

Well, I will no longer be doing business with @palmettoarmory which is a shame because I really liked them.
Ive debated back and forth about posting my experience because it leaves me at risk of doxxing myself since I'm sure they'll be able to tie this to my account in about 2 seconds, if they actually do some digging as I dont know how many people are upset about this, but I decided to post after another friend told me about having the same experience as well.
This started because a few days ago I got what I thought was a weird text asking me to do an ID verify for an order I made last week with a 3rd party company called Intellicheck for an order that I made.
After clicking the link Intellicheck wanted me to give them access to my phone camera, files, and ID. When I called to ask about this I was told its for fraud prevention and its a new system.
While this seems reasonable on the surface, and I could understand it for new customers or mismatched billing and shipping for high dollar random items, that is just not the case here. I am a returning customer, buying guns, which are shipping to a Palmetto approved FFL, where I then have to show ID and fill out a 4473, with a credit card I've already used for multiple purchases for guns with them, with the same matching billing address. To ask me to ID verify again with a 3rd party company is complete nonsense. Also, before you say this is about fraud, Palmetto has continued to process and ship other orders to me since then, that I didn't cancel, using the exact same billing address, shipping address, and credit card. So if it was about fraud, they would have canceled all my pending orders, but they haven't, they're still fulfilling other open orders.
You may think I'm overreacting, and oh jeez just comply it's not a big deal, but for a company that goes on and on about support of freedom, and the 2nd amendment, and all the stuff they're doing for Virginians before the ban, this is a really tone deaf move to ask your customers to ID verify with a 3rd party company. I offered to ID verify directly with Palmetto and was told they aren't doing that and that this is their new policy.
I was of course assured by the customer service rep that this third party company was totally "safe and secure" but they are always "safe and secure" until the next data breach that they ALWAYS have, where you then find out that all the data that they promised wasn't saved of course was saved and oh jeez sorry go f yourself to bad so sad nothing you can do. These companies constantly have breaches and mismanage our data. This allows Palmetto to push the liability for a breach off on a 3rd party.
We must push back against the utilization of these 3rd party companies. It is no better than the government using Flock or the Data Mining Companies as a loophole to violate the 4th amendment, and for Palmetto to stoop to the same level as the government overreach that they rail against and make videos condemning is shockingly disappointing. These companies are never secure, they're never safe, they never destroy your data, and for Palmetto to get on board with financially supporting them building more of a digital surveillance apparatus against all of us is just something I cant abide by.
I don't really expect anything to come of this, and losing me as a customer isnt going to cost them anything that they'll ever notice, and even the other people who feel the same as me probably aren't going to cost them enough money to notice because most people won't care about this and I'll be painted as unreasonable, but I just want people to know that this is what they're doing now. I'm disappointed, I liked them and their deals, and I really wanted this rifle that I had been waiting for a while for them to go on big sale again, which I'll now miss out on, guess thats just the cost of not wanting to do this nonsense. If it was really about fraud, they wouldnt be processing my other orders with the same credit card.

@DudespostingWs yt search "diggy diggy hole" and thank me later
English

Years ago, I memorized the NATO Phonetic Alphabet because I thought it was the most accurate.
Over the phone, even if you're trying to say something like, "N as in 'Night'," it can still be misheard as, "M as in 'Might,'" you know?
So I just went with the standard NATO template.
I got off the phone this morning with a guy at a business where I needed to give him my email address, so I'm doing the thing, "... Alpha ... Kilo ..." etc.
He says, "What branch of the service were you in?"
Apparently "no one ever says 'kilo,' that's a dead giveaway."

@MittelgroE @Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu Fair. The game and the tv/book series have so much in common, it needs to happen!
English

@cody_asdf8 @Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu Sry no, WarSails is set in Calradia, so no historical kingdoms but I'm certain there's gonna be a mod for that, give it some time.
English

Here's three.
1) Sid Meier's Pirates! except you start as a minor knight and it's all in medieval Europe. Probably Scotland.
2) Master of Magic using 2026 technology with a greatly enhanced spell, monster list, and so forth.
3) A real time strategy game in which everyone starts as different hominid species 100,000+ years ago. Your various species each have their own advantages & disadvantages. Like Homo floriensis uses a lot less food and can ride Stegodons, but their individuals have fewer hit points.

English

@MittelgroE @Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu That's a good idea. I was fond of the somewhat broken siege mechanics in the original version (opportunities to game the game). I suppose that'd cover half of the mod I'm wishing for if it's the right map. Does War Sails use the historical kingdoms?
English

@cody_asdf8 @Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu I'm not talking about War Sails, but Viking Conquest the early medieval age dlc for Warband covering the British Isles, Denmark, Frisia and Norge. If the old mechanics and the sometimes ridiculously unfair difficulty doesn't scare you off, I'll suggest you to give it a try
English

@MittelgroE @Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu I haven't played the viking expansion. Bannerlord is great. Finally on a play through where I'm going to conquer everything. But how cool would it be to have kingdoms and a map that represented 9th century England, with the characters, real and fictional, from the Last Kingdom?
English

@FairinAvatar @SandyofCthulhu Ooh, I think I like the Raft in space idea
English

@SandyofCthulhu Alpha Centauri 2
Civilization Test of Time 2
Raft, but in Spaaaaaaace.
Sid Mier's Pirates, but in Space.
Eve + X4
Space Engineers + Empyrion + Avorion
Spore 2
English

@Yej938 @SandyofCthulhu Came here to say this. Mount and Blade does a great job. It's a shame no one has made a full on Last Kingdom mod.
English

@SandyofCthulhu 1) is just Mount and Blade, and its an idea that works very well
English

@JesterJum Wth it's Tuesday and I'm feeling adventurous. Put me down for a couple of rooms.

@0xfs7 ai but with intentionally wrong capitalization and punctuation?

the Greek taverna is one of the most civilised social inventions in human history
hear me out 😩
you arrive, usually with people and the table is in the street or near the sea
the waiter doesn't rush you
he brings water and bread and olives without being asked
you order in the general direction of what you want - more plates arrive than you ordered because the kitchen decided something else was also good today
you eat across two hours
the conversation moves through subjects, nobody checks their phone
at some point - maybe hour 3 - the owner brings 3 small glass of something on the house
not because you asked but because you've been there long enough to be a real customer now
that the Greek taverna figured out - probably 2,000 years ago - is that the purpose of a meal is the experience of being human in a specific place with specific people
the food enables that
it doesn't replace it
modern restaurant culture forgot this
the Greek taverna never did

Ok last one: the rarest solar eclipse of all time. Only 4 people have seen this with their naked eyes. The sun is fully behind the moon. The only faint light hitting the near side is reflecting off of earth, 250,000 miles away. And the stars and galaxies in the background, sheesh

English

@AJamesMcCarthy @DacoMax It has changed exponentially. Read up on the MIT optical lasers on Artemis 2.
English

@DacoMax The nature of bandwidth hasn’t changed since the 60’s, you can only transmit so much data based on antennae size. It’s VERY impressive we’re able to get this feed.
English

Many seem to expect the livestream to have stunning high quality moon photos- those are coming. Keep in mind, bandwidth at the distance to the moon is a highly limited resource, they don't have the ability to quickly upload high resolution images while also streaming everything they're seeing.
For now, you'll see a stream coming from the exterior GoPrso, then the crew will share photos captured from their cameras with better lenses etc from inside the cabin.
Amazing photos are on their way!

English

@SandyofCthulhu Doesn't "release" make more sense than "loose"?
English

A pet historical peeve of mine is when archers are ordered to "fire" before they shoot. Before gunpowder, that term made no sense.
You would have ordered archers to "loose" or possibly "shoot". Also usually a group of archers didn't fire in a synchronized attack all together. Volley fire was developed for gunpowder infantry, to maximize the noise and make sure the enemy was close enough and grouped enough for that first shot to count.
There were times when you wanted your archers to shoot all together, but you wouldn't have each shot be an organized volley. If you did it at all it would just be the first (or the last) shot.
Anyway bowmen don't "fire".
