My 20y son has become obsessed w/ baseball, riding the momentum of WBS, Ohtani, Team USA. He goes to college an hour from any major baseball team. Also, he is broke because he is in college. All he wants to do is casually watch @MLB games. Growing up in LA, I was raised watching @WGNTV with Haray & @stevestone . Watching him struggle to simply follow a sport that could desperately benefit from attracting young, US men breaks my brain.

Don't join a company or industry that has contempt for its customers. You can make a lot of money that way, and of course it gives you a feeling of superiority, but you'll never do great work for a market you despise.

The idea of just not responding to an email from someone at your company is just crazy to me. Cannot comprehend. Boggles the mind.

The saddest part to me is that there must be a large group of people who hate their job/life so much that they only dream of escaping it. I'm not saying you need to love your job, and I'm all for "enough is enough", but I cannot imagine being so miserable in my current life that my entire life is roleplaying prison escape.

@VaeVictis_VV @buccocapital I heard a story of a guy who did that until 55. He made his wife skip all vacations. 1 year after he turned 55 and retired, she died. He has a lot of money now but no work, and no one to spend it with.

@buccocapital I get it. The modern workplace sucks. Only way out is to FIRE by any means possible. I am saving almost my entire salary so that I can retire at 50. But 35-50 I will take no vacations But I never want to sit in an office again. If I croak, my kids will inherit, and I save them

FIRE is unusually high among software engineers because not only do you make a lot of money, but the job is incredibly unstable because it changes dramatically every decade. Look at how different it is today vs just 4 years ago

My dad is 75 and lives in Iowa. He got the MLB Extra Innings package to watch the Tigers again this year - something he plans his whole day around. Tonight, Detroit (664 miles from his house) hosted Milwaukee (360 miles from his house). Couldn't watch. Blacked out. (1/2)

@OneManLBO Agree, but you were never competing with the bottom 50% for anything anyway. They aren't going to buy $2MM houses. Among the people that matter, who you're competing against, you are flat. That's the problem Has a place in every portfolio, just never going to get ahead with it

Sadly, one way I now recognize fake AI-generated replies is that AIs write punchier sentences than most ordinary humans.
