@IntellectEmbarg Convenience stores have the cheapest goods and they mark them up through the roof. Add to that the fact that they're mostly owned by Indians now, and I cannot comprehend why anyone would ever want to shop there. "I am going to sell you crap for a fortune! Have a nice day!"

And this isn't new either, people in the 80s and 90s knew this, it was even in the Simpsons. But rather than portraying Apu as a foreigner taking advantage of intellectually vulnerable people, his blatant disregard for his new community's wellbeing is just sort of a fun curiosity. And Homer is the real idiot for having allowed himself to be taken advantage of. After Apu loses his job, the Simpsons let him stay with them and they fight for him to get rehired at the Kwik-E-Mart.

I've casually observed this in my own life. When entering an indian-run gas station, I'll start checking the expiry dates on the food I'm about to buy and find that it has (or is nearly) expired. I've seen this in everything from bagged chips to soda. I've heard second-hand from an employee that one of cost saving techniques is owners buying nearly expired inventory from other businesses (restaurants) and using them in the prepared foods. I've stopped visiting gas station with indians behind the counter.

@sturmovikdragon @_fat_ugly_rat_ Why are you assuming they don’t know why people farm in the desert? I’ve known why for years, still think it’s retarded and should be illegal.

@_fat_ugly_rat_ Because its warm with lots of sunlight. If you gardened you would recognize how amazing that is compared to so much of the country where its only frost free between May and November and the fruit stop growing mid October cause no sun.

@_codi @Civixplorer It just says “in the US” not “in is now the US” meaning you shouldn’t assume every year is based on modern borders. Also Indians weren’t generally considered citizens of the US till 1924.

@YossarianSolo @StephenFleming Restrictions depend on the state. I lived in Texas during HS where you can’t drive more than one non-family member and there’s a curfew.

@codyqdev @StephenFleming The irony is that the drivers who took drivers ed at 16 were found to be better drivers than those who waited until 18. But yeah, the restrictions on 16 years old drivers, no driving friends for 6? months, only family members, etc...

Yet another friend with a child turning 16 next week. Hasn’t gotten a learner’s permit. Zero interest in a driver’s license. I keep hearing this same story. What’s WRONG with these kids?!?! On my 16th birthday, my mom took me out of school to take my driving test. Same for everyone I knew. Even if you couldn’t afford your own car, you could beg the use of the family station wagon occasionally. Freedom. Independence. Heck, privacy on a date! Are these kids giving all that up for scrolling TikTok and an occasional Uber?

@YossarianSolo @StephenFleming I was similar. I knew the requirements for getting your license at 18 were lower, and the license you get if you’re younger than 18 is rather restricted, so I kind of just waited till I was 18 lol. Got my full license in less than 2 weeks.

@StephenFleming My oldest took the driving class. Didn't want to drive the 50 hours required (including 10 hours of night driving), stating he wasn't going to do it until there was a car for him in the driveway. I said "Get familiar with the buses around here." He did.

@StephenFleming It’s easier to get your license at 18 so I just waited till then. Also, at least in Texas, the type of license you get when you’re a child is pretty restricted. You’re not allowed to have more than 1 passenger, there’s a curfew, exc.

@2two10one5 @ohlordnoNC According to this map metro Phoenix has more comfortable days. Yuma County is the area with the most comfortable days. Mohave County doesn’t even seem to crack top 5 or maybe even top 10 on this map.

@mikefaulkn41033 @ohlordnoNC I live in a low humidity city and 100 degree temps are miserable. You spend your days indoors with AC on. Obviously better than 100 and high humidity but still, both are crap.

@veilowo I understand the “before today” point it’s just rather irrelevant. There’s no technical reason Discord couldn’t, if they really wanted to, add an “everyone” option. And such an option wouldn’t be pointless like others in this thread have suggested.

@codyqdev you clearly aren't understanding the "before today" point I made in my reply. the reason "everyone" isn't an option is likely due to a limitation on discord's end, or an information security risk they don't want to be liable for.

why is there no option of "Everyone"? are people exposing that much info about themselves online that their discord account is *this* private?

@codyqdev this is not a new issue and nothing actually changed when the feature was implemented. discord has always done this, making an "everyone" option useless. prior to today, you still could not see full profiles of people you didn't share a server with or didn't have added.
