@fightuntil @xandrom_app @NearestCommit No Linux package manager solves all the problems I listed without compromises. Most Linuxes try to make everything work with sys libraries, which either has incompatibility issues (Arch), or long update cycles (Debian). Nix doesn’t but then you get multiple copies of the same lib

@fightuntil @xandrom_app @NearestCommit In reality software either depends on a systemwide install of a library and may occasionally just break, or it ships with the library alongside it which removes any benefit whatsoever. All this on top of significantly crappier portability compared to static linking (3/3)

@fightuntil @xandrom_app @NearestCommit Like sure, if it worked that every library kept 100% backwards compatibility and that every single piece of software depending on the single systemwide library, it’d be great! That, however, isn’t how static linking actually ends up working in the real world. (2/)

@xandrom_app @NearestCommit Things used to be statically linked. Then they progressed to dynamic linking. Then devs decided that their programs were ultra-special snowflakes that could not possibly be expected to run with randomlib v1.3.2 instead of v1.3.3 and so we're regressing.

@NearestCommit He’s right though. At least on existing major operating systems.

@xandrom_app @NearestCommit 2 things: 1) If (s)hes talking about OS linking (like say dwmapi in win32), always dynamically link. Static linking ties you to a specific OS version. 2) For your own code, dynamically link to components/plugins/[L]GPL.

@jaylombardi87 I’m fine with anything so long as it’s dry. Humidity sucks.

@astoofyfloof @totally_not_ace @DocStrangelove2 He didn’t build 2 feet off the ground, he dug a little ditch and built in it. He built a platform for sleeping a few feet off the ground which is good but the shelter will still flood.

@CartallicaX1 @TsubakiHitei @spencersoicher @nexton9news Not the same. The police still operate the cars, guns, uniforms, radios, tasers, drones, helicopters. Flock, a private company, operates the cameras. Either way being private isn’t the only reason Flock cameras should be torn down.

A Colorado driver keeps getting pulled over because of Flock camera alerts. Every time he passes a camera, police are told where he is and that he has a warrant. He doesn’t. And he can’t get it fixed. @nexton9news

@PlaguedMelody87 @theclergycat @FailedVessel67 @_Shummy_ Other than that veterans with PTSD can cope and seethe. Timmy (children) shouldn’t be given a mortar. And wildfires are a real concern and by far the most valid concern you brought up imo, though this is a regional concern.

@PlaguedMelody87 @theclergycat @FailedVessel67 @_Shummy_ I’d honestly be interested in seeing info on the pollution, and effects of that pollution on the long term, that fireworks cause. My intuition is that it’s negligible but I’m open to being wrong on that.

@lifeoveranalyst @ClimateDad77 Either way retard logic. You look at trends and with better measurements you can still take a say 10 year average. Obviously people have thought of this.

@lifeoveranalyst @ClimateDad77 Yeah so if you zoom that graph out (or look at more in depth data) it becomes clear that for nearly the entire time period represented in that graph (not just the past 150 years) humans have impacted the climate. Also just an image, conspiracy theorist ass reply. Expected ig.
