@kork2thousand @junkyj64 @basmaTgirl If black people just want to joke about it then fine, but clearly this has been made into a social justice issue trying to control what words people use.

@RaideroRacc This most likely comes from black gays who white gays pick it up from, not directly from black women. So it comes naturally from the gay community. I’ve never seen anyone do it to an extreme like this, just an occasional phrase, the cartoon just looks like language policing

One thing I think the discourse about this is missing, is do any of us actually know any white gay guys who talk like this? Cause I've never met one. You're gonna act woke but use negative inaccurate stereotypes to misrepresent a demographic just to make your point

@clevercorvidae_ @RaideroRacc Exactly, I’ve never seen a white gay guy do a complete imitation of a black woman like this but just the occasional word or phrase that most people probably didn’t even know came from black peoples

@RaideroRacc ive meet a handful but tbh the use of aave ive seen has been mostly sparse and largely a result of natural diffusion rather than done in an attempt to mock or mimic.

I do think it's interesting how a core -ism of social justice ethos is, "when an XYZ person tells you something is racist/sexist/xenophobic, you listen," but that rule seems to get mysteriously suspended when gay men call out homophobic depictions from our ostensible allies.

@MOLENAIDE She’s wrong because it’s a gross, actually offensive caricature that is just trying to police language, the kind of petty bullshit people should have left behind in 2020.

@kork2thousand @junkyj64 @basmaTgirl I said that people were mocking the guy in the video because he was flamboyant, which isn’t exclusive to gay people, I doubt he was gay. Or if you’re talking about the cartoon, it was about mocking gay people so how else to talk about it?

@colindr23 @JBotato @JackieStansDan They're gay whites, but when they need to the white part comes first. It's the pattern of using black feminine language exclusively aggressively, furthering angry black women tropes. These same white folk will complain when straight cis folk use "gay terminology."

@kork2thousand @junkyj64 @basmaTgirl It’s not just his words, his delivery is very flamboyant. If someone were doing a full imitation of a black person that could be read as mockery but just using certain vocabulary is not, & I don’t think a limp wrist and catty gay behavior is imitation of black women

@JBotato @JackieStansDan Who are “these same people?” How do you know what they do or don’t do? Who does one get permission from to use a word? Who can grant it or withhold it? None of this makes sense.

@colindr23 @JackieStansDan White people using Ebonics is cultural appropriation, not appreciation. It’s more of a mockery than anything, because these same people almost never actually enter black spaces and listen to black voices.

@minervas_muse ??? I’m a bit confused. Woke 1.0? Being aware of black issues systemic and racial prejudice? Cuz like I don’t think this creator is wrong at all, it’s a critique on a very relevant issue me and other black queer people still face. It’s not “super woke” to address it

@colindr23 @JackieStansDan Because it’s seen as pretty disrespectful when a white person speaks with Ebonics, knowing damn well they didn’t grow up speaking like that, just because they’re gay. They’re still white, being gay doesn’t change that

@riririmsi @JackieStansDan The casual use of bitch is arguably an issue I guess but it’s petty “micro-aggression nonsense to complain about whites using AAVE, besides being a homophobic caricature and calling this “the wide range of the ‘white gay vocabulary’”

@AtlantisFell People who whine about shit like this should be called out for exacerbating racial tension. So what if people copy AAVE? This is not a legit issue. You make racism worse with petty BS. The only thing that’s arguably a problem here is casually saying bitch, even that’s low-key

@esotericchophoe @nikicaga You don’t really know what this is about. White gay men sometimes use catchphrases that most of them probably just heard from other gays but they started with black women. They don’t talk with a blaccent.

@nikicaga Are you implying that white gay men are somehow more ridiculed for their forced blaccents than black people are for their actual accents? Bc if not I really don’t see why you felt the need to tweet this.

People who are famously never mocked for their manner of speech, gay men
jedah/miss hollywood@swagtiger2006

@ftmspongebob52 @moowsiie lock tf in. white gays speak in a dialect and manner that black people are often mocked and ridiculed for. despite this white gay men typically aren't given the same treatment or regard as black people who actually created and established the style of speaking in the first place.
