The JVP did not inherit a broken economy. They helped break it, then campaigned on the wreckage.
Their trade unions organized health worker strikes in the middle of a pandemic. Over 20,000 walked out in June 2021 while COVID was surging.
They opposed the Colombo Port City, calling it a "Chinese province." Today, in government, they quietly continue the same project.
They mocked the Southern Expressway as a road "to transport fish curry." Today they are inaugurating new expressways.
They fueled the Aragalaya, demanding the government fall while Sri Lanka was trying to negotiate with the IMF. Tourism collapsed. Investment froze. The rupee went into freefall.
During the economic crisis, remittances from overseas Sri Lankans dropped 42% in 2022. The diaspora was told not to send money by JVP members.
Billions of dollars were diverted to informal channels instead of the banking system, starving the country of the foreign currency it desperately needed.
JVP/NPP leaders (including @anuradisanayake ) repeatedly alleged that the Rajapaksas had stashed billions of dollars in Uganda and other countries. This was amplified heavily on social media during the Aragalaya period to discourage diaspora sending USD to the country. Once they came to power JVP/NPP accepted it was a lie.
They opposed virtually every stabilization effort from the opposition benches. Then won the election and adopted nearly every policy they once fought against.

🛢️බලශක්ති අමාත්යාංශය විසින් CPC හි ඉන්ධන පිරිවැය හෙළිදරව් කොට ඇත. අප්රේල් මාසයේ ආනයනය කළ ඉන්ධන මිල ගණන් සහ ඒවායෙන් කොටසක් මැයි මාසයේ භාවිතා වූ බව සලකන කල, සහනාධාර සංරචකය ගිණුම්ගත නොකළත් වාර්ෂික පාඩු ප්රමාණය ඉතා විශාලය.
👉 පෙට්රල් 92 සඳහා ලීටරයකට රු. 35 ක පාඩුවක් ද, ඔටෝ ඩීසල් සඳහා රු. 367 ක් ද, කෙරෝසීන් (භූමිතෙල් ) සඳහා රු. 325 ක් ද වේ. කෙරෝසීන් සඳහා කිසිදු බද්දක් නොමැති නිසා, මුළු පාඩුව ම රජයට සෘජුවම දැරීමට සිදු වේ.
👉ඔටෝ ඩීසල් සඳහා ලීටරයකට බදු සංරචකය රු. 163 ක් පමණ වේ. එය ගිණුම්ගත කළ පසුවත් ශුද්ධ පාඩුව ලීටරයකට රු. 162 ක් පමණ ඉතිරි වේ. පෙට්රල් 92 සඳහා ලීටරයකට රු. 35 ක මිල පාඩුවක් ඇතත්, ඉන් ලැබෙන බදු ආදායම ලීටරයකට රු. 101 ක් පමණ වේ.
🤔දකුණු ආසියාතික රටවල් සංසන්දනය කිරීමේ දී, ජාතික දළ දේශීය නිෂ්පාදිතය අනුව දුප්පතුම රටවල් වන නේපාලය සහ පාකිස්තානය, ඉන්ධන සඳහා ඉහළම මිල ගෙවන රටවල් ය. ගැනුම් ශක්තිය අනුව සසඳා බලන කල මෙම වෙනස තවත් පැහැදිලිව පෙනේ. (2 table)
🔴IMF වෙත 23 වතාවක් ගිය පාකිස්තානය, අවසානයේ දී නිවැරදි ඉන්ධන මිල ගණකම් කිරීමේ වැදගත්කම තේරුම් ගෙන ඇති බව පෙනේ. සීමිත මූල්ය සම්පත් ඇති දුප්පත් රටක් වන නේපාලයද, ඉන්ධන සහනාධාර ලෙස මිල ගෙවිය හැකි ජනතාවට රාජ්ය අරමුදල් නාස්ති කළ නොහැකි බව හඳුනාගෙන ඇත.නේපාලයේ නව මෝටර් රථ විකිණීමෙන් 73%ක් දැන් විද්යුත් වාහන ය ෆොසිල් ඉන්ධන ඉහළ මිලට තබා ගනිමින් විකල්ප දිරිමත් කිරීමේ ප්රතිඵලයකි.
ඊට ප්රතිවිරුද්ධව, දකුණු ආසියාවේ ජාතික දළ දේශීය නිෂ්පාදිතය අනුව ධනවත්ම රට වන ශ්රී ලංකාව, ගැනුම් ශක්තිය අනුව ගත් කල සිය කලාපයේ ම අඩුම ඉන්ධන මිල ඇති රට ය. එය බරපතල ප්රතිපත්ති විරෝධාභාසයකි.
🤔තුනෙන් දෙකක ආසන බහුතරයක් ඇති රජයකට, ඉන්ධන සාධාරණ ආර්ථික වටිනාකමට ලබා දීමට නොහැකි නම්, ඉදිරි රජයකට එය දේශපාලනිකව කළ හැකිද යන්න ගැටළු සහිතය. ආර්ථික විද්යාවේ දී, අවසාන ප්රතිඵල තීරණය වන්නේ අභිප්රාය මත නොව ප්රතිඵල මත ය. ප්රතිපත්ති පොලී අනුපාතය 1%කින් ඉහළ නංවා ඇත එය උද්ධමන අපේක්ෂාවන් ස්ථාවර කිරීමට ගත් තීරණාත්මක පියවරකි.
🔴නමුත් ඊයේ බැඳුම්කර වෙන්දේසියේ දී සිදු වූ දෙය ගැන සිතා බලන්න. මෙවර නියම වූ ඉහළ පොලී අනුපාත, දිගු කාලය සඳහා ගෙවිය යුත්තකි. මෙම එක් වෙන්දේසියකින් පමණක් රජයේ පොලී ගෙවීම් සැලකිය යුතු ලෙස ඉහළ යනු ඇත ඒ ඉහළ පොලිය ඉදිරි වසර ගණනාවක් ගෙවිය යුතු නිසාය.පසුගිය වසර 3 තුළ රාජ්ය මූල්ය ක්ෂේත්රයේ ලැබූ ජයග්රහණ, ආපස්සට හැරීමේ අවදානමක් දැන් පවතී.

Born Francois-Marie Arouet in 1694 to a middle-class Parisian family. Educated at a Jesuit school. Showed brilliance early. Chose the pen name "Voltaire" and became the most feared writer in Europe.
At 22, he was imprisoned in the Bastille for mocking the French aristocracy. He spent 11 months in a cell. He came out and kept writing.
Exiled to England in 1726, he studied Newton, Locke, and the British parliamentary system. Returned to France and published "Lettres philosophiques" (1734), challenging the Church, the monarchy, andFrench society. The book was banned and publicly burned. He kept writing.
In 1759, he published "Candide", a savage satire on blind optimism, inspired by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake that killed 30,000. It became one of the most influential novels in Western literature.
He fought for:
- Freedom of speech
- Freedom of religion
- Separation of church and state
- Abolition of slavery
- The right to a fair trial
He was banned, exiled, imprisoned, and had his books burned across Europe. He never stopped.
His words outlived every king, pope, and censor who tried to silence him.
A writer. A philosopher. A troublemaker. The father of the Enlightenment.
