Here is my take as a Georgian on yesterday’s incident at @RAFWrestlingUSA . @MerabDvalishvil is someone who never crosses the line into personal territory, like family or faith. His trash talk is strictly part of the sport and show, just like we see with other athletes every day. Going up to him outside the sport to demand answers "gangster-style" for his words is both ridiculous and annoying, especially coming from a total stranger. That is exactly why he got aggravated and hit Akhmed, Umar’s friend. As for Akhmed Gadzhimagomedov, he could not stand by while his friend was insulted. Since Umar was not there, Akhmed felt he had to step in. Honestly, in his place, most of us-including Merab or Ilia-would probably have done the same. I do not blame either of them. We are Caucasians, and we have explosive temperaments, but we must remember that this is ultimately just a part of the sport. The most important thing is to never disrespect each other’s family, faith, or country. Wishing the boys the best of luck in today’s competition!
