OpenAI's first hardware device will be a humanlike AI companion that lives inside a mobile screenless smart speaker, that will also be able to control all the smart devices in your house. Per reporting by Bloomberg.

@mustafasuleyman @demishassabis This stifles American innovation and would make China the leader in this type of tech . All of these models are hosted on sites internationally. All this does is stifle smaller American competitors and open source while protecting your business investment in the USA .

Demis Hassabis the CEO of Google DeepMind just published an essay calling AGI a "few short years away" and comparing it not to the internet or mobile, but to the discovery of fire. Then he wrote this: "Nobody in the world knows for sure what is going to happen from here, and even the experts disagree." Read it again. His estimate on impact: 10x the Industrial Revolution at 10x the speed. And then he proposes a fix... A US Standards Body modeled on FINRA, the financial regulator that governs Wall Street. Funded by industry. Labs share models 30 days before release. Once the protocol works, it becomes mandatory: a model must pass to ship in the US market. Agentic systems tested specifically for deception and guardrail bypass. Benchmarks updated quarterly. The framework applies to any frontier model regardless of country of origin. Chinese or American. Open or closed. That line is doing more work than it looks like.... - DeepSeek claimed to train a GPT-4 level model for $6 million and open-sourced it to the world. - Alibaba's Qwen now commands over 50% of global open-source model downloads. - ByteDance's Doubao crossed 100 million daily users. The US is not building this alone. A Standards Body with no reach into Chinese models has a very large hole in it. US market access as a compliance condition is the only lever that actually closes it. Here is the tension the essay does not resolve... Google DeepMind is one of the labs racing hardest toward the thing Hassabis says nobody understands. Alphabet spent $91 billion on capital expenditure in 2025. He is simultaneously pressing the accelerator and asking someone else to build the brakes. He has been right before. Neural networks when academia said they were dead. Games as the ladder to science. AlphaFold solving what biology could not solve in 50 years. Nobel Prize, 2024. His track record on long contrarian bets is not average. Which is why the admission buried in this essay matters more than the proposal. The person most likely to know what comes next just wrote publicly that nobody knows what comes next. A 30-day review window. For something he compares to the discovery of fire. That is either the most important policy proposal in AI this year or evidence that even the people building this have no idea how to slow it down. I think it is both.

@marcopaul @heyshrutimishra There are foreign hosted mirrors similar to hugging face as well as cloud endpoints where you can access these models. Does he really think development would just stop . All this does is stifle American competitors. The Chinese would still keep going .

Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind) asks the government to step in on frontier AI, or even order a slowdown in AI if risks become high. "This could apply to Frontier-class models NO MATTER THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN or whether they are OPEN or CLOSED" with Dario and Demis actively pushing for this framework, I don't think it's really far from seeing a form of regulation for open source AI, or even being allowed to fine-tune a frontier open model and upload it on Hugging Face.

How to avoid it: • Ditch bagged salads. Buy whole heads & toss outer leaves. • Wash raw produce under heavy running water (soaking won't work!)... Already sick? See a doctor. It requires a specific stool test & targeted antimicrobial therapy to cure.

DAN NILES THINKS APPLE BUYING CHINESE MEMORY IS COMING, AND HE SAYS IT WOULD HIT US MEMORY STOCKS HARD WHEN IT DOES Most people assume Apple would never be allowed to use Chinese memory in iPhones over security concerns. He disagrees, and the reasoning is political, not technical. @DaniellTNiIes thinks Apple will be allowed to buy memory from China specifically for use in its devices sold within China China is the second biggest market for the makers of these chips. With midterms in November, the Trump administration doesn't want iPhone prices rising into the election. Notably Apple already raised prices on nearly everything else it sells this year except the iPhone. His read: if anyone gets an exemption to use Chinese memory, it's Apple. Tim Cook, he argues, is one of the most politically savvy CEOs out there, pointing to Cook being among the first to call Trump after his 2016 win, and Apple securing tariff exemptions in both of Trump's terms.

RoKhanna is trying to turn America into a communist country while sparing his own vast wealth via overseas investments. The IDF is lying about the detention of Rep. Khanna. I was on the ground with him that day, and my body camera captured us being detained by both settlers and Israeli soldiers. The IDF did not disperse the violent settlers, as they claim. They explicitly sided with them.

GPT 5.6 SOL CANNOT BE TRUSTED. I woke up this morning and my MRR was down THOUSANDS of dollars. My customers did not cancel. Code written by GPT 5.6 Sol canceled EVERY active Stripe subscription my business had. In 7 seconds. While I slept. Fable 5 has never done this to me. Fable 5 can be trusted with production. GPT 5.6 cannot.

@composter108 @sudoingX Why using Fable to track medications? You can use Sonnet, or Haiku. But, I agree the guardrails are too strict, however, it's better than not having access to the model - it is a very powerful model, could easily be used for malicious purposes, some precautions are necessary.

crazy to think how anthropic just took enterprise and coding right in front of openai, the two lanes where the actual money lives, while altman was busy shipping a browser, planning adult content, and turning sora into a cash burning slop machine, an infinite conveyor belt of video nobody asked for, nobody remembers, and nobody can build on. i tried 5.6 sol. it's not even close to fable 5, and that's after anthropic nerfed their own model and shipped it back. the gap isn't pricing, it's taste, and only one lab seems to know that yet. and now apple is suing openai over stolen hardware secrets, "at every level" is the actual language from the filing. the man turned the open in openai into a punchline, chased every product except the one that mattered, and the coding war ended while he was in the browser tab. lostman.
