I'm aware of what people say. It doesn't mean they are right (perceived subjectively I know). So you think all desires are bad? What about the desire to cure diseases? Is that a trap? The desire to make your useful home furniture you might be using rn? Is that also a trap and whoever made them shouldn't have done that?

Desire itself isn't a mind virus. But there can be bad/good desires that are important for creating heaven on Earth. You can't depend on the common people to support the monks if they don't give any value to society (not saying they aren't). It's just that desire - like the desire for contentment - has bad desire with the umbrella of the desire (in general) that you aren't making a distinction of.
