Extremely thankful and excited for my inclusion in this @Artist_Commons. We just had the first themed lecture today and couldn’t imagine how good it would be. This is only the first week and already amazed.

This week we held our kick-off events for @Artist_Commons and welcomed forty students into our year-long program. It's been months of non-stop admissions interviews with prospective students and reviewing applications from almost a hundred art historians and other professors for various lecturer positions ranging from craft and creativity to the business of art. How odd it feels then that today is my first day in 2026 without a Zoom call. It's a milestone to mark the distance travelled. We've been sprinting to get Artist Commons up and running for so long (which is really just sprinting to the starting line of the program itself) and I'm so grateful to be doing this. I could not be more excited for everything that's ahead for our first batch of cohorts this year.

Took a month off X. needed to. not all reasons were good ones but the main one was simple: refocus.
for 3 years some of you watched me build generative art on the side. truth is it's been 12 years. started after a joshua davis course when nobody cared about any of this.
released two shy collections. didn't really push them. people associate me with painting. was literally told to stick to painting.
except i'm the type of guy that don't like being told what to do.
there's this thing now where you're supposed to be a brand before being an artist. pick a lane. stay consistent. build the narrative. i find that exhausting. and historically stupid. artists move. that's what artists do. always been like that.
so 2026 i decided: fuck it. the collections come out.
that's why pluralism exists. that's why i add music and writing to my art whenever i can or feel like it. that's why ASCIINON & ASCIILIFE exist. that's why i have 20+ collections sitting unreleased on my drives.
since ryokan dropped i've been doing one thing: devving new collections. twelve months straight. code and words, nothing else.
we're almost there.
