Ok hear me out, in Project Hail Mary, if the mission had failed and Grace never sent Taomoeba back to earth… couldn’t earth still have been ok with 90%+ sunlight forever (which is what happened with other stars after the astrophage population feeding on them eventually plateaus) by using the ability to breed and harness astrophage for infinite free energy which could be used for light and heat for agriculture, building giant heated greenhouses, keeping mega cities plenty warm, etc? Think of all the stuff you could do with astrophage besides interstellar travel. It’s mind boggling how many civilization level infrastructure projects would suddenly be realistically feasible.

@wonpilesqued The last lines that they threw in about having a way back almost ruined the movie for me for this reason. Just erased all the previous stakes, and made no sense for his character arc. In the book he's ultimately happy to stay on Erid. He makes peace with that choice.
