Sony lost $765 million on its Bungie deal after buying the company for $3.6 billion in 2022 because Marathon flopped and Destiny 2 is losing players. Marathon cost $250 million to make but sold only around 1 to 2 million copies, with player numbers dropping fast after launch Bungie still plans to add more content to the game for years.

One of the things that made dire sponsor appealing was there was 3 events that could give good loot and 2 of those can now potentially give prestige loot. Perimeter only has 2 and the loot isn’t all that great plus only intercept can possibly have prestige salvage.
If perimeter is going to be the map there needs to be some tweak otherwise it’s going to be a significantly worse playlist where you just load up to fight 4 teams all using MIDA kits

Details below: - As of 3PM PT Sponsored - Perimeter will become available. - Sponsored Perimeter will require you to have a free (green/enhanced tier) sponsored kit equipped to queue. - Sponsored Perimeter will only support crew matching, or pre-made crew queueing. To commemorate this experiment we will also be upping the floor on sponsored kits. Green sponsored kits will now be free and grey tier sponsored kits will be retired until the end of season. Thanks to everyone who has been participating in the Sponsored Dire Marsh experiment, we've learned a lot from your feedback and from observing you. As we roll out this new queue, we look forward to hearing from all of you who want to hop in and join us especially those of you at hauler who want to duke it out.

@Ziegler_Dev Nyaaaass love this update! Sponsored fights seem a bit more balanced now which is great, also fantastic to have each kit at my disposal whenever I want to switch! And every game my teams up for Warden or Intercept which is making the general experience funner. Keep cooking!

UPDATE: WTF WSTRs
We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. SOOOOOO... as of Tuesday 4/21 (likely 8AM PT) the WSTR will no longer be able to down an enemy player who has blue shields or above with two shots. The ideal is that in a majority of cases this will force a reload in scenarios where the target has a blue shield, allowing for some more counterplay in these scenarios.
What Will Change:
- Change will go live Tuesday 4/21 in the morning. Likely 8AM PT.
- WSTRs can still down a green shielded target with 2 direct shots at short rang
- WSTRs will no longer be able to down a blue and above shielded target with 2 shots at short range.
We're still keeping an eye on a variety of balance issues. Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming and we'll keep hammering at it.

@PorkPoncho I think they just need to lock the initial spawns so that only the spawning team can unlock their section. That way there’s then an tactical element of when you open your section

But excusing the fact I should've absolutely seen that yellow sniper light (That's me being bad and I totally own that). How are we being pushed in Steerage in about 2 minutes?
Something has got to be done about the spawns and matchmaking in Cryo Archive man. Its genuinely the only standout negative for me (and from what I'm seeing many others) on Marathon right now. The map is so damn cool but just being rolled like this withing mere minutes from spawning is just anti fun.
Really hope the devs come up with a solution for this but they've been so quick on implementing other things I'm starting to believe they're also stumped on how to deal with this.
Game still absolutely rules though so we ball!

@Relaxed008 The problem is unless you have a reliable people to play with it can be so hit and miss. I dare say since the patch match making has felt a lot more even footed so maybe they’ve done a fix. Rather than face purple stacks all the time. A PvE mode to help casuals build would help

I’m torn on this take because I agree Marathon is painful and hard to learn at times.
But after trying Grayzone Warfare and guessing how complex Tarkov is,
I don’t think people understand how approachable and playable Marathon is compared to other extraction shooters. It hits the sweet spot of complex but not too complex imo.

@Geezaws2 Agree w AI buff. Think should be same as PvPvE except you can’t do contracts, blue tier is the highest loot, it’s solo or AI scales on team size, same lockers. It should be for fun runs, map/runner practice, building wallet. Casuals could then be willing to risk more in PvP

A thread on how I'd design a PvE mode for Marathon:
1) Separate lockers. Players who choose to engage the PvE mode would be effectively on a different launcher, no single item acquired from the PvP side can be ported to the PvPvE mode, no exceptions. not even a single credit.

A lot of things in the new mid season update. This new update focuses on a few new ways to interact with other runners, play together, and some rewards related to playing together. Additionally there's some improvements and changes to how Recon works for all of you Recon mains, some solo progression buffs, some progression buffs for new players starting mid season, some adjustments to sniper rifles, and a lot more!
With all the changes in the update we'll be keeping our eyes and ears open for how it's going, so we appreciate any and all feedback you have.
