Check out our latest publication in @J_A_C_S where we fold flat nitroarenes into bicyclic pyrrolidines. By direct irradiation, we convert the nitro group into a singlet nitrene that via a cascade of electrocyclic reactions is converted into the sp3-rich heterocycles.

Happy to share our work on photoexcited nitroarene chemistry published in Chem @Chem_CP. Upon photoexcitation, nitroarenes enable the direct coupling with amines to access ortho-phenylenediamine. Check the mechanism: the nitro group is displaced, reduced and protected in one go
