@histories_arch It wasn't just Subway, it included other restaurants, washrooms& other amenities. If I recall there were 12 containers.Made by a company in Canada and shipped to NY.All of these need heating&cooling, power was limited I set up a power meter to make sure there was enough to go around
During the reconstruction of the World Trade Center, construction workers had to choose bring their own lunch or go down for 30 minutes daily to grab a meal. To solve this, Subway constructed a fully equipped shop within a shipping container, which was conveniently lifted to the workers each day.
When the new World Trade Center began to rise over Lower Manhattan, every level built felt like both an act of defiance and rebirth. For the thousands of construction workers who spent their days high above the city, even something as simple as lunch was a challenge. The climb down and back up could take nearly an hour, time few could afford to lose.
To solve it, the Subway sandwich chain came up with a quietly ingenious idea. They built a fully functioning restaurant inside a shipping container. Each morning, cranes lifted the bright yellow box up to the active floors, where crews could grab a sandwich without ever leaving the site. Inside, ovens baked bread, drinks cooled in small fridges, and the air smelled faintly of warm dough and steel dust.
It became a fixture of the rebuild, a small symbol of life and routine amid a project defined by memory and loss. The men and women working there didn’t just rebuild a skyscraper; they rebuilt a skyline’s heartbeat.
The “Sky Subway,” as workers nicknamed it, opened in 2010 and served nearly 2,000 meals a day. It operated until the tower’s topping-out in 2012, closing only when the project neared completion.

I was dt Toronto when the power outage hit. Dear pedestrians - traffic lights being out does not mean that you can cross at every intersection whenever you feel like it. Work with traffic. Idiots.
