You're technically correct but that ship has sailed. When I was in grad school I was doing research related to medical devices. Postdocs and professors were warned not to refer to themselves as "doctor" after a PhD in the department was handed a set of paddles when a patient had a cardiac arrest during a procedure...

@Imonaar In the middle ages, doctors held doctorates, first in theology, then canon law and later, philosophy. Physicians only held licentiates, then a bachelor degree, and only in 1703, were awarded a MD.

On Sunday, 14 women were ordained priest in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Gaborone, the first women priests in the Diocese of Botswana and therefore the Anglican Province of Central Africa. By my count that means 32 of 42 provinces of the Anglican Communion now have women priests, plus all 5 extra-provincial jurisdictions. (Photos © Rachel Mash) @AnglicanNews @AnglicanWorld

@PaulinusOfTrier Only on one occasion. The priest-presider invited the whole congragation to say the words of institution with him. Of course, I kept my mouth shut.

Has anyone actually been at a Mass where there was liturgical abuse, as opposed to seeing it on internet? I have seen these examples. (1) use of crockery at a Mass instead of proper vessels. (2) untrained volunteers being given the role of extraordinary ministers of holy communion resulting in compounded abuses. (3) refusal to give communion to a person who was kneeling for it.

@christwayislove @PaulinusOfTrier Dogs present at Mass aren't a liturgical abuse but if it receives communion, then that's an abuse. On St Francis Day on Oct 4, you'd see more than dogs. All creatures receive a blessing.

New norms and have seen it often. Along with many praying with open arms, pronouncing the words of consecration out loud. (I now understand why those Sacred words should be whispered only by a Holy Priest). Dogs during mass. Classic confessionals barricaded by pews. I could go on.

@AndrewPetiprin These days, Father Given Name or Bishop Given Name is the usual practice. Remember when Anglicanorum coetibus was first made public? Archbishop Vincent and Archbishop Rowan took questions from journalists.

If a priest introduces himself as Father Surname, he should address his parishioners as Mr., Mrs., or Miss Surname. Same with Doctor Surname and patients. Same with college Professor Surname and students. Or we could just not fool with it and use Christian names.

@NormanLeedsFRSA @ALucieSmith The Ordinariate is as Anglican as it could get. While an Anglican sui iuris church was considered before, Rome balked on doing so for ecumenical reasons. The Anglicans needed to be reassured and the Orthodox would not be amused with the Pope establishing a new rite.

@ALucieSmith There are at least 800 Anglo-Catholic clergy in England, but it is harder to calculate the number of laity. Maybe if the Ordinariate were replaced by an Anglican rite Church it would be more attractive to Anglicans.

Are there any Anglo-Catholics out there who absolutely reject female ordination? My feeling is that most have made their peace with it.

Here are some of the Roman Catholic teachings Protestants reject as false: The Assumption of Mary. The Immaculate Conception of Mary. Mary as Queen of Heaven. Mary as Mediatrix or Co-Redemptrix in any meaningful sense. Prayer to Mary and the saints. The veneration of relics. The use of images in devotion in ways that function like religious invocation. Papal infallibility. The infallibility of the Roman Magisterium. The claim that Rome is the one true Church in a way that excludes faithful Protestant churches. The claim that the pope is the visible head of the whole Church. The claim that bishops in communion with Rome possess unique apostolic succession necessary for the fullness of the Church. The sacrificial understanding of the Mass. The idea that priests have power to make Christ substantially present on the altar at every Mass. Transubstantiation. Eucharistic adoration. The withholding of the cup from the laity as a historical practice. The claim that baptism regenerates ex opere operato. The sacrament of penance as necessary for restoration after mortal sin. Priestly absolution as a judicial act that remits sin. The distinction between mortal and venial sin as Rome defines it. Purgatory. Indulgences. The treasury of merit. The application of the merits of Mary and the saints to other believers. The idea that justification includes infused righteousness as the ground of acceptance before God. The denial of justification by faith alone. The denial that the imputed righteousness of Christ is sufficient for the believer’s standing before God. The claim that final justification is based, in part, on Spirit-wrought works as the believer’s righteousness before God. The idea that grace can be lost and regained through the sacramental system. The claim that Scripture and unwritten tradition together form one binding deposit interpreted infallibly by Rome. The claim that the Apocrypha belongs to the Old Testament canon. The dogmatic authority of later Marian doctrines that are absent from Scripture. The claim that the Roman Church can define dogma that all Christians must believe even when that doctrine lacks clear biblical warrant.

@FancyABQ @OrdinariateUSA God did not write a single word of Holy Scripture. We have to trust the Church founded by Christ on Peter, who was given the keys to bind on earth what is bound in heaven.

@cusp_ph The Malolos constitution did not establish a Senate also. It established a permanent commission.

Why do we have a Senate? The US Jones Law 1916 created 12 Senate districts for an elected upper chamber to replace the appointive Philippine Commission. The 1935 Consti abolished the Senate. In 1941 Pres MLQ sought to extend his 6yr term and packaged it with a Senate at large.

@MikePagano87 The Latins had to define transubstantiation due to disbelief and doubt in the West. During the Reformation when Protestants believed in the literal meaning of Scripture except "This is my body and blood" then more so the need for that word.

The didache describes someone who is going to be baptized as fasting prior. Doesn’t sound much like infant baptism to me… never seen an infant fast. And the Eucharistic language is lacking any form of transubstantiation language whatsoever.
Hughes de Payens 🇻🇦✝️📿@hdpayens

The Didache was written before most Christians had a "Bible." It had baptism rites. Eucharistic prayers. Bishops. Deacons. Fasting rules. A full liturgical calendar. The structure Protestants call "Catholic invention" was already running. A thread.

@OrdinariateUSA Catholicism is definitely one of the largest religious organizations in the world. But it is now a cult, because it has gotten away from pure Christianity. It is now a monument to Popes and the hierarchy.

@Bp_Richard_Min It's in the Catholic tradition to be loyal to one's country and to the Church. It's "and" not either or.

Manuel L. Quezon III
Bad as Cayetano might be, "worst senate president ever" has to go to Gil Puyat who not only passively, but actively, supported the abolition of the Senate in 1972-73; and the entire Senate back then too, shares the blame, except for these five and those in exile at the time.

@Titanium7Jb @SFT_Ministries @aigkenham The Bible doesn't need scientific evidence. You don't need to get that. The Bible just needs a guarantee that it is authoritative, and that comes only from the Catholic Church.

The Anglican 39 Articles mention two "Books of Homilies" which are, hypothetically, the second most important source of authority in the entire Church of England. They've been out print in all but extremely expensive academic editions for like 150 years. They were, anyway
