@psswordprotectd yeah this is somewhat more obvious to me in the case of editing tennis technique - you cant do it in-game with the pressure to get points, you need the slack of free practice time

Psychological insight is useless without necessary systemic slack being available. Good health IS a part of psychology and suffering less; without it the system may understand a harmful pattern but still return to the cheapest familiar actions to save energetic capacity. Relying on habitual defensive action is much less costly to predict and use, so without being able to spare the extra cost of going outside cheap policies, change won’t happen.

if you keep self-sabotaging maybe you should stop lying to yourself

@Shadow_Rebbe @nickcammarata @nosilverv @chrislakin well, good thing chris took care of his burnout so he can deal with all of the twitter mentions 😂
LOL sorry chris

@corbindreams @nickcammarata @nosilverv @chrislakin Lol. That was my first thought too,but I feel like I'm tagging him too often
English

@nickcammarata @nosilverv But doesn’t having them rendered in 8K give you insight into their nature so that the psychological knots untie themselves?

Classical view: “the task only took 20 minutes… why did i procrastinate for days‽ next time I need to just Do It!” Locally Optimal view: the task took only 20 min ~after~ procrastinating for days? next time I gotta start procrastinating earlier wow

i stopped hating myself and realized i actually really like my emotions and i keep being so surprised at how much i enjoy them??? like over the past couple days i’ve been finding so much enjoyment in my anxieties..? that’s really weird and a bit confusing to me because i always just would immediately push them away and shame myself for it, but it turns out maybe there was a big enjoyable component to it too?? idk still figuring it out

@chrislakin physics math people are also incentivized to ruminate without end towards a theoretical first principles hyperobject instead of being realistic and shipping actual good things into the world
English

@chrislakin many of my risd art student friends are way more productive and more efficient/effective than my physics friends

@corbindreams chrislakin.blog/locally-optimal strikes again. wishing you well corbin, thanks for sharing

@seventhmeal i also think it can be much less intense/ritualistic than the book shows it to be?
my current hypothesis is smth like coherence therapy but it’s nothing special it’s literally just like being a good writing coach / good songwriting coach
English

@seventhmeal yes!
i was somewhat reminded of it
i think it has a lot of right things but i don’t necessarily agree w the framing or tone of the book + i think whats going on is a bit more nuanced than how simple the book shows it to be
