@don_draper112 @charlesmurray I'd contend that outsized to population for sure but in relation to production, am less sure. (but I don't know how to measure that) and that there are likely other such groups, but they avoid the radar and will use the jew issue to avoid it.

@Shadow_Rebbe @charlesmurray My position is that 1) our political system is uniquely vulnerable to being bought, and 2) that the distinct ethnic interests of Jews (as they themselves understand their interests) sets up a dynamic in which a highly productive ethnic group wields outsize political influence.

@don_draper112 @charlesmurray we have 2 convos here. both of which I am mainly a dummy and know it. I don't prefer an oligarxhy I don't know what system is good. I know it can be much better. I think the main lever here is the cultivation of virtue, which is critical for all societies, esp. democracies.

@don_draper112 @charlesmurray I think part of the problem is thst democracy holds an ideal of one man one vote, while reality has questions of production amd extraction.

I'd probably agree with Feynman, I don't know enough about Altman, but I'll accept it for the sake of argument. Yes, and intermarriage is a longstanding tension within diaspora Jewish communities. There are obviously Jews who intermarry. There are others who see intermarriage as representing a threat as grave as genocide, and actively work to keep Jews from seeing themselves as fully assimilated. It's not always successful, and there are absolutely awesome Jews who are truly just as American/European as anyone else. I don't dispute that. But there is also truth to the reality that despite accounting for only 2% of the population, Jews account for 20% of political donations, AIPAC has an astonishing success rate at primarying anyone who votes against them in Congress, regardless of what public opinion says, and people are not wrong for observing that this dynamic is unique and poses significant and legitimate questions for civic health. I understand why people are concerned about not wanting to target a particular ethnic group. Truly. I get it. But I also don't understand how anyone can look at our politics today, and even if they don't personally believe Israel or American Jewry hold outsize influence, not see why someone could be forgiven for believing they do.
