We need to have an frank talk about what it means — for journalists, for activists, for SWers, for anyone criminalized — that the owner of this platform will become a government official. And what that means for DMs, bookmarks, burner accts— anything we thought of as "private"🧵

Today still feels heavy. SW as an industry will never disappear but it’ll be forced further underground, leaving us with less control over our working conditions. Survival workers who are already more vulnerable will suffer the most. Under a puritanical regime, with stricter laws, mothers in SW will run a greater risk of losing custody of their children in the event of an arrest. These are valid concerns and dismissing them because they won’t impact you is out of touch with the community as a whole.

SWers are the canaries in the coal mine regarding our collective rights. When you allow them to come for the rights of SWers, you are agreeing to allow them to eventually come for yours too.
