@babysoftluke @kirplatonov We run 1vCPU 3.7 RAM instance, CPU spikes a little over 50%. Jobs I'd say we run currently 240k per day, continuous processing of webhooks plus scheduled jobs every 5 minutes.

Just upgraded one of my app's Heroku Redis plans to Premium 3 to handle the volume of background jobs for large customers. I have a strong feeling that paying $120/month for a managed Redis instance with only 500 MB of memory in 2024 is pure robbery 😡

@kirplatonov No, we run a single CloudSQL instance on GCP. The same one that powers the rails webapp. Also run on a single Cloudrun instance with 1 vCPU and it's fine for now. Didn't see the need to invest more in scaling out for now but will become a problem ofc.

@kirplatonov The only thing I noticed is it tends to hammer the database if you have a high number of jobs running, not a problem for now. But I think there's ways to mitigate that by tuning postgres (disabling the WAL on solid queue tables is something I want to try)

@jamesdevonport Used to happen to us too & we've restricted features and have to manually approve them. While annoying, it's good because it gets us talking to more users.

Any other Shopify devs having issues with fraudulent stores signing up, buying the most expensive plan with a fake card and using a ton of resources? I've had a couple recently and it's a huge pain to deal with.

nobody will remember: - your salary - how “busy you were” - how many hours you worked people will remember: - if you hopped on a quick call - when you hopped on a quick call - how many quick calls you hopped on - how you made them feel when you hopped on a quick call

If I was to write a playbook for Shopify ads - the exact same one I've used for 80 apps (and counting) - who would be interested in getting their hands on it? It's a rough draft rn, but will work on cleaning it up if there's enough demand.

@kevin_miguet @ShopifyDevFazal I used to feel like this, maybe still do sometimes. You're not alone. I think it's useful to realise that those people in the past don't matter. It's probably more powerful visualising yourself in the future being happy😇

@ShopifyDevFazal Revenge against people who thought I was "not much" because I was too shy, not having a business school/engineering diploma, didn't grew up in a very educated environment. Against all those little sentences. I want to prove them and myself they don't have more power than me.

Almost two years in since I've started my own agency, and anger and desire for revenge is still a major source of my energy. It's a strong one but can't help thinking it'll be harmful in the long run. Do someone relate ?

@DebMecca Great advice - thank you! We're still in early stages, I assume you'd do this with bigger co's like the Shopify Plus'es of the world :)

@cosoare Thank you! It also works great for prospecting calls. Setting up the standard for what to expect at the end of the call so it's not awkward - and there is an expectation to either shake hands and part or move things to the next step.

There is a direct correlation to reviews ⤴️ rankings for Shopify apps. I work with an app that wasn't getting a lot of reviews. No matter what my Magic wand was doing, it wasn't moving the needle. 10 reviews in just over a month has resulted in a +13 point bump in rankings.

@cosoare There's a thing in sales called "The upfront contract." Something like "If we are successfully able to set up everything to your standards and you're happy with your service, would you be willing to leave us a review to share with other merchants looking to install the app?" 🤣😇

@DebMecca True! It's funny because I've spent sometimes so much time with people setting things up for them and when I ask them for a review they stop replying 😂

@cosoare It prob depends on what you consider "fixing." Helping merchants set things up or do something more sophisticated with the app can also warrant great customer service, which can lead to reviews.

I spoke with some Shopify app founders who are struggling with LCP, besides doing all the basics right. A common pattern was that their servers were on Heroku. It is interesting if it is just a coincidence or if Heroku has some problem.

@DebMecca @liam_at_shopify If you look at this one, it carries similar traits with the other ones we've had to block: 2a352a-19.myshopify.com -- since we're SMS-based, they try to scam people with "delivery missed" scams. You could run a simple ML model on the shop names, maybe other attributes of the shop

@cosoare @liam_at_shopify The other one all of the emails were different but some of them had the same provider. All of them turned into frozen stores after around the 2 week mark.

There is a lot of fraudulent activity on Shopify. Never before have I seen so much of it across different apps and they aren't from the same group. You can't profile them but you can predict what will happen. It's upsetting because it messes with numbers, clogs CS, & sucks.

And there is literally nothing that Shopify can do about this. It's not the same group, and it's not something they can police in the beginning. I don't have answers just wanted to post this for solidarity if you're quietly experiencing this with your apps.
