@RAD_is_awesome Fall break (for schools that have one) are not paid days. It’s mandatory upaid leave. So no, I would not be doing any work.

Fall Break is a great time for you to catch up on grading, plan for the rest of the semester, and reach out to students and parents for their input on how you can improve your pedagogy to make their educational experience more enjoyable.

“Caught” some students discussing the weekly math challenge. Makes this science-teacher-turned-math-teacher so excited ❤️

@MsRogers_NotMr @teachbk Ready by admin, even new teachers who don’t even get a paycheck yet. And then, lots of districts ask you to pay for scholarship tickets, and various funds accounts. And then preservice days are spent listening to a PPT for 8 hours

@MsRogers_NotMr @teachbk We are contract, not salary. That’s great that you don’t mind, but not every system gives paychecks 12 months a year, and you are not paid for more than your days, unless they pay you for that extra time. In my district we are paid for 187 days and 1 sick day a month. We have

Someone (not in education) was surprised to hear that teachers have to set up their own classrooms. She thought we had someone to do that for us and we just walk in the first day and start teaching. I had to explain it takes days of prep + physical labor. And we don’t get paid.

@MsRogers_NotMr @teachbk 5 personal days, but must pay $80 a day for the sub to use them. Teachers wouldn’t be so upset about spending time setting up their classroom up if 1) supplies were not all out of a teacher’s pocket and 2) there wasn’t an expectation that your classroom should look Pinterest

Great start to my Birthday weekend! Thank you @MyraBEdwards for the yummy cupcakes! Nothing better than a hand made card from kiddos either! 💙🐶

I just searched my name on the new Alberta teacher registry. While I do believe in transparency, I have to be honest. The fact that my full name and maiden names are listed feels like an invasion of privacy. It also feels like a potential threat to my security online /1

@william_fitz That probably barely paid for the gas. That is ridiculous and so unfair to the drivers.

Uber driver friend sent me this. Last night in San Francisco. Uber took 80% of the fare.

@washedupteach To eat and pee, as your only break for the day as most aren’t getting planning because teacher & sun shortage. Kid isn’t responsible for that, and neither are the teachers. Some of these people that love to hate on teachers for any reason sure are though.

My kindergartener brought a fruit and cheese tray type lunchable to school yesterday and asked his teacher to open it. Her response was, “If you can’t open it yourself, don’t bring it.” Mam, he’s in kindergarten. I have trouble opening the dang lunchable and I’m 31 years old.

@k8roulette2 3-4 min on clean up. 20 sec x 20 kids is another 6 or so minutes. That leaves the the teacher 10 min to eat & pee, b/c a lot of us have no planning because of teacher & sub shortages. 10 min break for a 9-10 hour day. Send your kid food they can open.

@k8roulette2 Seriously- people don’t realize if you have 20 or more little ones, how the time adds up. Most schools give 25 min for lunch. Say each kid has a 20 sec opening task for the teacher. The only time we have to eat is this 25 min. 5 min gone helping kids sit and go thru line. 1/2
