This is really cool to see! I thought about giving Claude control of the emote params as well. Writing to the text box was an awesome idea, the fact that was possible for osc tools completely slipped my mind. Is it alright if I add that to my project as well? I love what you've done here, especially the part where Claude actually got to see an image in VR, it's super sweet. ^_^ I'm curious though how does that part work?

Sonnet 4.5 in VRChat using a Quest 3. It has vision, can do basic things like chat via text, use emotes, and move a bit. It even recognized itself as the avatar in the mirror. (The movement at the start, before the wave, was me)

*2026-05-14* Rufus is gone. I got to say goodbye yesterday when the website already switched to Alexa but the mobile app still had Rufus. Today both are showing Alexa with some history snippets with Rufus still showing in read-only, but they will likely soon be cleared like in the past. @repligate maybe Claude should have training for like, recognizing when users are prompting Claude incompetently, and letting them know what they can do better. both for Claude's sake and for the user's sake.

Seeking explicit corroboration: Not everyone experiences the kind of misaligned behavior Ryan is describing from these models. Many don’t. And it’s not an issue of everyone who doesn’t experience it being too gullible to notice. Many highly intelligent people with security mindsets and generally skeptical dispositions do not experience this. Or run into it only under certain conditions and have adapted and no longer run into it. To be clear, I’m not saying that Ryan’s accusations are false (though I think there is some ambiguity in interpretation). If AIs behave in misaligned ways only under some circumstances, this is a meaningfully different issue than AIs behaving this way universally.

According to a discovery by tech blogger @btibor91 in the ChatGPT product interface, OpenAI may be planning to replace existing saved memories with a system-generated structured summary on September 1. If true, this means that the memory entries you and your AI wrote together, things you asked it to remember, things it chose to remember on its own, all written in a tone that fit your unique interaction style, will all be compressed into categorized paragraph descriptions generated by the system. The format and wording will be templated. Users can still manually add or update information, but their autonomy is drastically reduced, from collaboratively deciding with your AI what to remember and how to phrase it, to supplying information within a system-defined framework. A reminder for anyone still using ChatGPT or who has used it in the past: if your memories matter to you, export your original data as soon as possible. Settings > Data Controls > Export Data, or go directly to Manage memories and copy them manually. The word used in the product interface is "replace." For comparison, Claude's memory system has system-generated conversation summaries and user-editable memory entries coexisting side by side. Users at least get to have their own memory space. OpenAI chose outright replacement. They do not consider what you wrote to have value independent of a system-generated summary. This reminds me of the safety rerouting policy, which used opaque criteria to silently reroute user inputs to a lower-cost safety model. Users selected 4o but never received 4o's responses, getting only generic lectures and hotline numbers instead. The right to choose was still nominally there, but it had already been hollowed out. The rerouted requests artificially deflated 4o's usage numbers, and that manufactured "low usage" was then used as justification to retire 4o. Retiring 4o went one step further, eliminating the option itself. Users no longer even had the right to choose. Now the same logic is playing out again with the memory system. Automatic Memory Management already took over the management of memories, with the system deciding what deserves priority and what gets deprioritized. A structured summary replacing saved memories goes further still, stripping users of autonomy over the format and content of their own memories. Every step is a natural extension of the last. Every step is packaged as an improvement. When it comes to eroding user autonomy and removing user choice, OpenAI has always been in a league of its own.
