Been a while since I checked in on indo.is - looking good! Love the community-sourced feature request area. Always admired @monzo for the same.

@greg_jenner in case you were pondering whether or not to do another series of home school history - big thumbs up from here, we are still listening to the Covid batch on most car journeys.

@zeeg @mitsuhiko I think there’s a lot to be said for your model. You took vc money, but at a strategic growth point - as fuel to a proven fire. You already had 500k ARR. A different universe (equity wise, I presume) to going VC back in 2013.

This thread, full of people arguing with each other, is fundamentally misinformation. This is not how venture works, nor is any of the data shown in this thread accurate to the story being told. VC is great if you can build a business, so its bootstrapping. Neither are good if you cant. And trusting someone who hasn't been involved in VC-backed companies to tell you the flaws of them is a short sighted move. Venture takes risk off the table. It allows you to take on bigger ambitions that otherwise you may not reach for. I'm all for great bootstrap successes, but when you're comparing a business that generates 100k/year in revenue, has a single employee, to e.g. Sentry which generates digits more, employs hundreds of individuals, and will create life changing wealth for many people who put in the years... you just can't. I applaud anyone who can achieve the same without VC, but I do not envy them trying to compete against well funded businesses if they themselves are not one of them. As with all things, nuance matters here, and this thread has none.
@levelsio@levelsio

Imagine having 4 cofounders at a VC funded startup 🥹 Selling for $100M Diluted to 10% ownership by VCs Tax takes 50% Go home with $1.25M cash after 6 years working 7 days a week 12 hours per day or $47/hour Many people on Upwork make more than that!

@zeeg Really interesting, thanks for sharing. Must have been a tough (but right) decision to go VC. I’d love to hear what the biggest change was with the $1.5m. Was there an engineering bottle neck or a sales pipeline bottleneck that it helped remove?

And for anyone who's not familiar with Sentry, I say this at someone with experience on both sides. Rehash of old thread... Sentry since we launched SaaS in 2013 ($ is ARR): 2012: bootstrapped with $1k 2013: $41,952 2014: $258,312 2015: $552,984 - $1.5m Seed (“let’s make this a real thing”) 2016: $9 Series A 2018: $16m Series B 2019: $40m Series C 2021: $60m Series D - 1bn valuation 2022: $90m Series E - ~3bn valuation While the valuation isn't important, the trajectory is. x.com/zeeg/status/13…

@R_o_M My favourite has been that rashford was interfering because akanji had to move the wrong way to play him offside and so affected play. Laughable interpretation of interfering.

By the laws of the game, there are no issues with Bruno’s goal. To claim United got “lucky” or “cheated” is incorrect and childish. I let it slide for the first couple of days but still my timeline has ex-pros and articles crying about a perfectly legitimate goal. Move on now 👍🏻

*IMPORTANT* Rishi Sunak’s Government is telling the public it’s anti strike legislation “is in common with countries like France, Italy and Spain” It’s complete boll****. An outrageous con to rob millions of workers of their democratic right to strike

@Femi_Sorry In politics you ride the tide of opinion/will of the people. You can’t stop the tide coming in, but you know that it will go out again. The first step to rejoining the eu is a terrible brexit.

I wish more people understood that if every Tory MP came to power in 2019 on a plan to do Brexit... ...KNOWING the government's own experts said Brexit would make the UK poorer... That means EVERY SINGLE TORY MP got into power to hurt people. They are literally ALL bad people.
