@AlecJRichardson @alxgrade Returned to this one again, simply because I still want to play this. Any chance of sharing a playable? Or open sourcing so I can tinker with it?

@covox the main components to this setup is the 'shortest edge paths' and edge paths to curves'. I set the endpoints of the mesh (verts with only one neighbor) as *start vertices* and the *end vertex* to the bottom point, then I do some math and sampling to set the radius and rotation.

@KennyLauderdal3 @Riilu_Art Yeah, I have the blu-ray actually. And as mentioned, lots of cool designs and great sequences, but also some really shoddy ones.

I like that this has been on Youtube for like a decade, but people are so down with VHS they're like "Hell yeah, never even heard of this." That's how cool VHS tapes are. You could crop ANY modern anime to 4:3 & make a tape out of it & it's coolness factor would go up 500%.
Louie Zong (on bluesky now)@everydaylouie

i found a VHS at goodwill of a 90s anime called Mighty Space Miners - not much about it online, so i decided to digitize it and put it up on Internet Archive! check it out, there's some very neat design and animation in there archive.org/details/mighty…

@genmon Very pretty! But, given that it's an e-paper screen, and poems can be cached ahead, why not make it battery powered? It of course adds cost and complexity, but even a very pretty green cable is still a cable that needs to run to an outlet somewhere.

The AI alarmists are now using a video cryptanalysis paper as proof that [insert influencer alarmism here]. The paper shows temporal multi sampling with a stabilized zoom lens through a rolling shutter camera, literally the definition of “impractical” lol nassiben.com/video-based-cr…

@matt_ostertag @basilsutter @GameDev_Planet Wait a minute, how do you get rim light like that from half Lambert? To my eyes it looks like there's consistent thickness along the entire left silhouette, irregardless of curvature.

@basilsutter @GameDev_Planet Yeah, the cool thing is that it's super easy. It's basically just a half lambert deferred light. And the coolest thing is that you are not limited, you can add any type of custom light such as rim or even negative lights to fake AO. #unity3d #gamedev #indiedev

I was looking at some old projects I made and I discovered the deferred bounce light inspired from Inside. It's super cheap and fast. #unity3d #gamedev #shaders

@bgolus Actually using datapacking right now thanks to a great post by you somewhere on the Unity forums. It inspired me to start thinking about channels as bit chunks of various sizes to draw from.

But again, it doesn't mean any of those values need to be UVs, or colors, or normals. It doesn't even mean the vertex position data needs to actually be vertex positions! And if you don't need all the bits of precision, look into data packing!

A lesson every good tech artist / vfx artist should learn early ... vertex positions, UVs, normals, vertex colors ... they're all just arbitrary data. Use them however you want if them being something else is useful.

#UnrealEngine #UE4 #UE5 #UETips Here's one WPO trick I used to create this night sky. The challenge was to create subtle per-star lens flares that would always face the camera and remain straight, exactly like billboards. 🧵⬇️

Using Niagara to draw damage masks with only a single 8-bit render target in @UnrealEngine Works on skinned meshes and no positional map required, just a single-channel acceleration map baked offline with a custom editor tool. #UE5 Project Discord: discord.gg/rrMzug9J2n

@joramvanloenen What about just running data, power and ground to wherever the screen is, using 0.1 mm (or similar) copper wire?

@grapefrukt Yeah, the convenience of products like these would be silly to ignore. Wi-fi and/or BT, fun screen, sometimes maybe a battery charge circuit... Perfect for trying out ideas and having fun.

@grapefrukt @KingB3n_ The ESP32 has really good sleep/hibernation performance (10 uA vs 2.5 uA), but there's a DC/DC converter on that board that draws 40 uA continuously, without any way to shut it down while the ESP32 is sleeping :/

@grapefrukt I'm kind of versed in MCU carrier board pinouts, and this one is ridiculous. Might be designed for carrying some sort of daughter board, but as a general-purpose board it fails. However, you can solder directly to the ESP32 module if you want more GPIOs. ae01.alicdn.com/kf/Hd593a70e3f…
