Unpopular opinion:
Avoiding paying income tax through depreciation is not a good enough reason to upgrade farm equipment
It should be something that is needed to make you more efficient or save you money long term
Upgrade for the right reasons!

@jasonmauck1 Oh but wait, there’s more 🤪… (I understand the unfeasibility in logistics) in the greenhouse industry the light diffusing has basically doubled their crop production because the sunlight is getting to the lower and bottom of the leaves… even sunlight gets optimized
Vertical sun capture is the ONLY thing keeping the average farm/farmer from raising yields comparable to David Hula and Randy Dowdy. They just spend enough $$ … and there is skill involved to fool more plants to thinking they’re getting this much sunlight.
You’ll encounter 2 different types of farmers when you present on farm research about edge row farming and sequencing….some of it has to do with indoctrination of upbringing and messaging from big ag… some of it has to do with IQ/imagination/problem solving abilities
We’ll call these 2 groups the nays and the yays
I’ll preface this by saying not all the nays are bad people or dumb but they either don’t really give a shit about farming or can’t imagine a future in which agriculture will change… in markets, equipment and our options. Crop insurance is always an objection … also the idea that none of these principles can be scaled.
The yays… that’s why I share these things. Those are the farms that share 1 common belief. Agriculture will change in the future…we don’t know exactly what it will look like in 10 or 20 years but we know it will be different
I’m under the opinion that success won’t depend as much on horsepower and logistics. Compare it to an uber ride … or getting dinner delivered to your doorstep. The sharing economy / modulation of innovation will reward those individuals that can augment the acre with more diversity and synergy…which will differentiate them from the ones stuck in the past
@robcarpenter@NHTSAgov I don’t know how to categorize it… the reliance on automation to the degree of losing the ability to maintain proficiency while thinking we are “good”… would be on the list
I say Distraction is one of our top three highway/driver focused issues. What do you think the top 3 are? @NHTSAgov says 3,275 people died in vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2023.
In 2023, 324,819 people were injured in distraction-affected traffic crashes.
@robertreese_4 Check with an actual electrician… check your shielding for grounding out or try to run your sensor wires away from power wires, the interference is gonna screw with you
New to us Dryer came with quantum controller. We put a new moisture sensor on the outlet.
We cannot keep it calibrated. It’s either three points high or three points too low.
Like the idea of running on automatic. But these swings are getting aggravating. Any suggestions?
Farmers used to rally behind one another at penny auctions. Now your neighbor will try and rent ground out from under you for an extra $10/acre just to have it
@LowBoomLowDrift Edison Motors type of thinking, diesel electric hybrid with combine/ sprayer/ etc running electric motors instead of belts, hyd, chains… or better yet, retrofit packages for some older machines that aren’t exactly worn out
@LowBoomLowDrift Depends; full detox about 3-4 hours (300-500 gal rinse, wash nozzles and tires), changing products that “are compatible” about an hour (just rinse out the system and hope for the best)… I try to coordinate as much as I can based partly on what’s coming next
@MdMcLean1 It’s the curse of the fall of man; women get pain in childbirth and a love for their husband, men get to suffer while tilling the earth until death… and in a Peterson readabout, [“… you don’t get the benefit without going through the consequences…”]
@Shawridgefarm Oh, it’s good up until it isn’t… I found out our NH sprayer quits at 4% remaining… and then you need to bring a 2 step to prime it as well
@AreOhEssEyeEe Did you have fish or seafood? We are nearing the end of Fungicide season on corn, and I’ve found that if you are around it being sprayed (you don’t need to be sprayed by it, just the off gassing) and eat seafood, you’ll have really screwed up dreams
In the last week, have any of you experienced wildly vivid dreams, strange sleeping patterns (insomnia, waking up at 3am), or increased anxiety during the night?
@bridgetschill There’s a few reasons for it; debris (or fluids) minimized, visibility both to see what’s happening and been seen, asserting dominance in the lane… most people in cars have no idea where their car is
Question for the motor cycle riders? WTH do you ride on or within 2 inches of the yellow line. I tend to envision the absolute worst... I swear your heads are going to smash into a lot of mirrors, you could just scoot to the middle...
@robbiehendricks I’ve been a long time Toyota fan, the latest breed of turbo engines has seemed to have its plagues and has made me question the loyalty… until I look at anything else and it’s still worse
Been living with the new Lexus GX550 since trading in our cursed Tahoe for a few months now.
Takeaway: American automakers have a big problem on their hands.
The Lexus is faster. Better looking. Smoother ride. More capable off-road. Better sound system. Better tech. Better service. Better warranty.
Costs $8000 less.
And Bonus:
Hasn’t yet left my wife and children stuck on the side of the road after blowing two engines in 8 weeks.
Really wanted to support Chevy, GM, and American manufacturing, but I’m not in the business of buying junk just to be a patriot.
Long live Toyota.
@BryanHJVEquip **not someone with experience you are looking for** some are vacuum assisted or actuated, and slight vacuum leaks or forgotten caps can lead you on a wild goose chase
Anyone have Quadra jet cab experience. Have mine working decent but I can’t get the choke open anymore than in the pic. Also what am I missing for the secondary’s to open. I have seen some with the rod.
