If you missed the @CBSNews segment on brokers today you can find it here cbsnews.com/live/. I'm sharing the whole thing because you need to hear the whole thing. While I consulted on and did the undercover interview a lot goes into these and Michael Kaplan did an awesome job, @GenLogs again played a huge role. At the end of the day we have dangerous highways because we have non existent or very limited barriers to entry. At the end of the day there are consequences of this that we must focus on like Delilah Coleman and her family. Marcus also did great in this segment. This is what we're fighting for. Highway accident mitigation through appropriate barriers to entry, and licensing standards among so many other things. Brokers are a part but they're not the only part.

Same carrier that El Hadji Karamoko Quattara drove for when he killed three on the shoulder of I-81 in Roanoke County in the week of Christmas 2025. He then had all charges associated with that crash nolle prosequi, went back to MD, and continued to drive. All FOIA requests to VSP regarding that crash have been denied by the VA State Police. Roanoke courts would only confirm that he required an interpreter.

Wrong-way crashes kill about 430 people a year on divided highways. Tractor-trailer enters through an exit ramp, then U-turns onto the interstate. NHTSA, FHWA, and the alphabet agencies found signage was a nig issue. So reading them is important. Signs, trip planning, interchange design, and driver understanding matter too.

In 2023, I donated a million AA miles to charity and vowed never to fly them again. I fly @Delta and @Virgin exclusively. Delta is the best domestic airline, and some others are a very different flying experience than anything we have domestically. In air travel, we're like a third-world country.

@Superpowamario No. The Never-Ending Pasta Pass is only for use by the Passholder whose name is printed on the Pass. Passes are personalized and non-transferable. Passholders must present a valid photo I.D. along with the Pass at the time of ordering.

At 75 mph, 12 seconds means driving 1,320' blind. More than four football fields. You dont need driver-facing video to know there is a problem. Hard braking. Close following. Lane departures. Erratic steering. Pitch, yaw and repeated near misses. The telematics are the indicators, not managing those is what takes carriers to court and to the cleaners. Hard braking is usually not the problem. Its the symptom.

Don't get "lied to" and "deceived by" people running for office. Says the guy who wants you to vote for him as a middle-age guy masquerading as a middle-age female. Wild time to be alive.

CDL Schools and ELDT are a hot topic right now. US Census tells us who lives in the communities that feed trucking companies and ELDT schools that train them. This is the vulnerable recruiting pipeline overlay. Carrier, ELDT, US Census. Considers crash rates, poverty, crime, enforcement...everything. Best part? Turn on the Congressional map and contact your representative about what your district looks like. theteaintel.com/recruitment-pi…

@maybedanielleee Tax collections are the Chick-fil-A drive-thru of the government. Everything else can be a shit show, but they're going to get their money.

A control. High speed, empty road, no witnesses, delayed EMS. The road engineering that saves you at noon stops saving you at 2 AM? Citation rate across 1.24 million crashes: 25.9% at 10 AM. 23.2% at 10 PM. 24.3% at 2 AM. Truck drivers are not more at fault at night. The dead are just deadder. Fatigue doesn't drive death at night; the crashes aren't different; the outcome does. The 2 a.m. crash isn't a different crash. It's the same crash with nobody coming.

One of the datasets I'm working on is on trucking fatality rates. What do you make of this? Fewer people, fewer vehicles on the road, fewer crashes, double the fatalities. A truck crash at 2 AM is 1.98× as deadly as one at 10 AM. 18.3% of truck crashes happen between 9 PM and 6 AM. They account for 27.5% of deaths.

@FreightAlley I like PE in trucking because they're notoriously risk adverse provided they're guided correctly, they make the investments necessary to protect their investments and fund. The worst thing about PE is, they often hire the worse to give them that guidance.

@timhousema1665 Not all insurance is created equal. Traditional underwriting is not what it once was, but it's largely pivoting due to instant-issue policies entering the market. RRGs are something completely different.

@RobCarpenter I remember when great West wouldn't renew me after a audit. They were very strict at one time very strict. I had heard they were the insured for the Turnpike U-turn crash. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I promise you that trying to hold court in the street to make your case is a now in situation. Especially in a truck. Just do what you got to do and live to fight another day.
