The NYT reports British officials were "left stunned" by the State Dept when they raised concerns about free-speech and migrant crime. British diplomats' "jaws dropped" when confronted on these issues.

@nick_gerr67 @myth_pilot You are right. Surveillance is not needed. But the prerequisites for high trust have been largely eliminated. And no one seems to want to bring them back.

I really don’t give a shit about Palantir! I think we need 1000x more Palantir. I want Palantir so deep in every govt database, cell phone network, and financial system that an illegal can’t buy a stick of gum in biloxi without alerting every cop and ice agent for 100 miles.

@jimbohuff Not quite. Most consumers are women. They choose what is bought for kids, the household, their partners etc. So if most women in the west are white, representing them makes sense. It’s self-insert psychology. Men aren’t deciding to buy Bang stain remover.

Ok I can explain this to you, because unlike this bunch of losers I’ve worked in marketing. What we market to you is this: An identity you want > A product > A sale Doesn’t matter if it’s a teapot or a banking app. That’s what you do with an ad. Does it make you feel smart? Prestigious? In on the joke? Cool? Safe? That’s how advertisers think. If I say “This hat is cool, and good!” that’s a 2/10 ad. If I say “This hat is the hat you wear on holiday this year when the warm Italian sun floods the vineyards” that’s already put the hat on your head and a luxury holiday. Now, most people do not like racism. I know that’ll shock you because of Elon’s whack algorithm, but most people identify as “not a racist”. Easiest way to say to someone, look how open minded we are, and you are just like us? Diversity in an ad. It’s just sales. You’re just dumb so you see an “agenda”.

The thing about these old homes is that the floor plan is always genius. You may think that you can come up with a better floor plan, but even modern architects have a hard time doing it right. It’s also not intuitive why this is so nice, and many people have a hard time seeing it in their mind’s eye when looking at a print.

@DrHistoryBrad As much as I would like to see a cut in spending, colleges bring people into the state. Ohio would be foolish to close them. They ought to be reforming them to better provide skilled workers. Way better off cutting funding for useless departments than closing schools.

@ThomBrady5 I know a woman with a mixed-raced daughter who hates her and identifies with her father. To her the daughter talk, you'd think the mom kidnapped her, instead of got abandoned by the dad. If a daughter can hate her mom that much, a pack of teen strangers can become a warband.

Someone else posted this but the spheres of influence map is more accurate. No one really de facto controlled this much territory at any point in that period. Trade routes overlapped and up until a few decades after the War of 1812, indigenous groups were still the dominant powers in many places west of the Appalachians.

Easily 70% of modern corporate jobs are fake subsidized adult daycare with little to no productive output. AI is a nice excuse to eliminate these jobs and dramatically lower costs and risk. The brutal truth is that most people really don’t “do” much of anything and get paid to show up. Ideally this frees people for creative endeavors, but most importantly family formation. The economic component will need to be solved. Something like the WPA on a much larger scale will be needed, perhaps to fund these creative endeavors or help accelerate the return of onshore manufacturing or better yet: to incentivize family formation itself. Why send mom to her fake email job for 100k a year when we can pay her 100k a year to raise her children?
